There is a huge challenge of accessing sanitary towels by young girls living in slum and rural areas, currently worsened by the fires which gutted down 2 main slums and the horn of Africa’s drought.

There are very few groups involving girls in sports and mentorship as well.

Other challenges include; Lack of Income in households Girls forced to share toilets with men Drought in the horn of Africa which affected most Kenyan homesteads Congestion in slums makes girls not be able to access proper sanitation Girls miss out on school for upto seven (7) days a month compared to boys Most areas do not have disposal for the used pads

We plan to implement the project initially for one year and roll over to other regions in the years

to follow. During this period we shall utilize the resources provided by the different stakeholders

Risk Considerations Monitoring and Evaluation:

In the slum areas, there are some communities which hold the traditional believes that sports

are only meant for boys and it’s our intent to address this by bringing in female coaches and

past female beneficiaries of other programs which involve girls in sports initiatives. We plan to

conduct exchange visits with organizations like moving the goal post and Carolina for Kibera

which involve girls in their HIV/AIDs sports initiatives. We shall conduct information sessions on

the benefits of the project and partner with relevant government ministries.

Monitoring and Evaluation:The Most significant change method will be used to monitor the progress of the project.

Page 7: [Challenge:Future] My Sisters Keeper

Knowledge transfer and empowerment through mentorship is sustainable

Girls will continue participating in sports activities as schools and the ministry of Sports

will be involved through out the project duration Income generated by women will be used to buy sanitary for

daughters and pay school fees Education support that will enable girls to get into professions

and achieve employment opportunities similar to their male counterparts The partnerships created by the various corporates in their

social responsibility programs are hoped to continue post the funding period
