The Annual Dinner was a big success. We had a good turnout and our members and their
families enjoyed the entire program.
Bilal Ahmad, Director of Membership & Finance, had gone through a surgery earlier this
month. The support that he had received from our membership was very encouraging.
Alhamdulillah, Bilal is recovering, please continue your prayers for his fast recovery.
This month we have launched our newly design website. Our site, www.nedea.net is easy to
use and provide lots of information and quick links to the websites of NED University and
many NED Alumni Associations of North America. One of the main features is the online
payment option. Now you can pay for our upcoming events online using Visa/Master Card. This was a very challenging task,
but we accomplished it with very limited resources. I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to the NEDEA Board of
Directors for their hard work and efforts in upgrading our website.
All the Board members are busy working in their areas of responsibility. Shahid is finalizing the potential speakers for Spring
Professional Seminar. Naeem is in the process of reserving the summer picnic spot. Bilal is taking care of our accounts.
Anees is going through the punch list items of the website and working with our web developer to take care of any glitches
or hiccups.
Once again to our members/readers, please send us information that you would like to share with our membership.
Best wishes
Rashid Ahmed

NED was established in 1921-22 as the Prince of Wales Engineering College by the citizens of Karachi to commemorate the visit of the Price
of Wales to Karachi. The University retains the initials in honor of the principal donor for that College – Nadirshaw Edulji Dinshaw. Because
of its reputation, NED attracts the best students to the undergraduate programs.

Q. Tell us about yourself and your family.
A. Married with 3 beautiful children
Q. Why Engineering?
A. I was presented with 2 choices, engineering and medicine. My father was an engineer and so was my
elder sister. The thought of going to medical school plus house job and fellowship scared me, so I took
the easy route
Q. Which year did you graduate and what was your major?
A. 1989, Electrical Engineering
Q. Tell us about your professional life?
A. IT consultant focusing on infrastructure management, specializing in ecommerce.
Q. If you had to choose another occupation, what would it be?
A. Definitely cricketer at the highest level
Q. Who was your favorite teacher at NED?
A. Khalid Parwaiz
Q. Please recount some of your unforgettable memories while at NED?
A. There are quite a few, but the so-called industrial tour was probably at the top. Second one has to be live entertainment during certain
classes. Third one is probably when I got bullied by one of my good friends (now) during the first year, when he threw my notebook out of
the window with his friends and laughed at me, ‘what are you gonna do now’
Q. What are some of your proudest achievements in life?
A. My father visited me in 1999 and passed away, but I feel proud to be around him during his final weeks/months.
Q. What do you like best about NEDEA?
A. We learnt quite a few things but I think it’s the sense of pride that I feel to be NEDIAN.
Q. What do you like to do in your spare time?
A. What spare time?? Talk to family and friends or if it’s too late, then browse and watch videos.
Q. Describe your perfect day?
A. Let me try – It’s probably when I am away at some camping trip in the middle of nowhere. Wake up and not worry about work or
anything else. Go for hiking in a thick forest with friends and BBQ at a scenic spot. That is followed by watching Pak-India cricket game!!!
Q. What is something about you that might surprise most people?
A. My parents come from Indian Gujrat, but a lot of people thought that I was from Punjab.
Q. Favorite food
A. Steak or BBQ
Q. What is your favorite word?
A. ‘beta’
Q. What is your least favorite word?
A. can’t say here ,
Q. What advice can you give to our readers?
A. At the end of the day, you and I can ONLY strive, and must strive – Destiny is controlled by someone else.
