Roots
Needs of plants
Water Sunlight NutrientsCarbon dioxide
Functions of Parts of the plant
1) Anchors the plant in the soil.2)The roots takes water and nutrients from the soil.
The stem takes water and nutrients from the roots. The Leaf takes water and nutrients (from stem) and sunlight and carbon dioxide (from the air) to make the plants food.
The flower forms seeds and fruits.(production of new plants)

SepalProtects the bud.
PetalBrightly coloured to attract insects.
AntherFilament
StamenThe male
part of the flower. (The anther produces pollen)
Stigma(Sticky surface
to catch the pollen)
Style(Tube)
Ovary(Tube)
Pistil(The
female part of
the flower)
Pollination
(The transfer of pollen from
stamen to pistil)
Ways of Pollination
By insects or birds
By wind
Pollination by insects or birds
Nectar (sweet liquid), colourful petals and scent attract the insect and birds
Pollen sticks to their body.
When pollinator goes to another flower the pollen sticks to the pistil.
Types of Pollination
Self pollination
Cross pollination
The male pollinates the female of the same flower.
The male pollinates the female of another flower.
What happens after Pollination?
A pollen tube grows from the pollen to the egg.The pollen enters the egg (FERTILISATION)
What happens after fertilisation?
A pollen tube grows from the pollen to the egg.The pollen enters the egg (FERTILISATION)
Structure of seed
Baby plant
Protects the seed
Stores food for embryo.
