The US government has decided to found a colony on another planet. What do you think the government hopes to gain from the colony? What conditions might make you move to this distant colony? What challenges might you and other settlers face at this colony?

Colony- an area under full or partial control of another country

Charter- document granting the recipient the right to settle a colony

Joint-Stock Company- company in which investors buy stock in return for a share of its future profits
