Braided

Almost 100 years ago in Troy, North Carolina, A. Leon Capel ventured into a business that would become America’s premier braided rug manufacturing company. What began as the Gee-Haw Plowline Company in 1915—a rope company that produced plow lines for mules—quickly transformed into a braided rug company after Henry Ford introduced the tractor—a mechanical mule!—in 1917. To change direction, Capel decided to purchase braiding machines and braided his rope materials rather than twisting them into rope. He then dyed the ropes many colors and stitched them together with a sewing machine in a spiral that could create rugs as small or as large as needed.
