RSGC Community Map Assignment NAME:
The Idea: Geography is not just about using other people’s maps, but also creating our own. Making your own map, especially using modern geotechnologies, is a great way to become more and more expert at geographic skills.
Task: You will create a useful map for the RSGC community using one application (Google maps, Google Earth or Arcgis.com). You may select your own topic. You may be creative and come up with your own completely individual idea, or choose your topic from the suggested list below: o Terry Fox Running Routes in High Parko Cross-Country Practice Routeso Team Sports Locations and Travel Timeso Places to Eat…o Service Trip Locationso Community Service Mapso Campus Map of RSGC
After researching the area you choose, create a useful RSGC community map incorporating the proper mapping conventions discussed in class. Screen shots will be highly effective for creating a final copy. Please refer to the rubric below for the evaluation criteria.
To keep yourself organized, use the following chart to plan your community map:
Key Details of the Area Ways I Plan to Show These Features
Do I Know How to Use the Software to Make This Feature Come Alive?
(A paper draft sketch is also highly recommended, but not necessary.)
Map Checklist Printed neatly
Title located at the top of the page and clearly reflects the topic Title Large enough to attract attention, but not overwhelming Direction/compass Legend items and borders Scale Description box and other visuals etc.
