• Library Service Providers play main role, in many countries and regions

• Mostly government funded organizations

• Libraries are usually forming a membership organization around a provider, with a Board

• Contracts with libraries are closed by the provider

• Cooperation with individual libraries in networks depends on compatibility with provider’s solution

Current metadata service solutions are at end of live

• E-revolution puts regional/national hubs in different (difficult ?) position

• Providers need new generation of global metadata infrastructure

• Request for more:

– effectiveness in combining system components

– flexibility connecting to services outside of libraries

Unmet Needs – Service Providers


Need for connection to global sources

Almost all providers are in need for global metadata services

• WorldCat is the global metadata source

Many providers in different countries are reflecting on the future

• Depending on integration with national infrastructures, WorldShare/WorldCat might be a viable solution

• In addition, the use of the WorldShare platform by a provider would allow easier WMS roll out to the respective libraries

• Migration of National Infrastructure GII to WorldShare Platform including Discovery and Knowledge Base

• Agreement with UKB (11 University Libraries and National Library) to move tot WorldShare (13-2-2014)

• Further plans of other library segments (Public Libraries – Colleges – Special Libraries ) to migrate to the WorldsharePlatform

• First Migrations of local systems to WMS
