We need to Eliminate/Reduce our Risks of the 5 ALA Types of Accidents*
* FSF ALAR Task Force Data Group
Tools to Achieve CFIT/ALAR Risk Reduction
Airlines should consider all of these as part of the total solution
• Implement ALAR Tool Kit*• Emphasis on CFIT/ALAR Standardization• Improvements in CFIT/ALAR Training• Technology Solutions – EGPWS, Constant
*Our focus today
Angle Approaches, GPS, VSD, etc.
Elements of ALAR Tool Kit
ALAR Tool Kit is CD based with web links to additional information
• Two Safety Videos• Five Power-point Safety Presentations• 34 Comprehensive Briefing Notes• Risk Awareness and Reduction Tools• Standard Operating Procedures Template• Training Resource Materials
Typical Implementation of ALAR Tool Kit
•Gather all the information –ALAR Tool Kit –Become involved in Regional ALAR efforts
•Disseminate information to appropriate individuals•Operations departments take Briefing notes
–Some airlines take 2 or 3 per month–Video shown at recurrent training
•CEO support required –Provide whatever support required/requested–Provide a feedback vehicle/mechanism from crews to CEO
Benefits of ALAR Tool Kit
• Safety and Economics–Lower insurance rates–Lower direct and indirect accident/incident cost
• Better crew awareness and decision making • Management can readily see for a small cost, the potential for a large return
Summary
• Pro-active Airlines are Implementing the ALAR Tool Kit Regardless of Airline Size–From 2 airplane fleets to 600 airplane fleets
• Internationally Recognized Thing to Do–IATA, ICAO, FSF
• Benefits Greatly Outweigh the Implementation Cost
You need to insure your CFIT/ALAR Risk is minimized.
The ALAR Tool Kit can help you do this.
