Shanghai’s entrepreneurial spirit makes it a natural location to pursue an internship in any field—from business to law, fashion to education. CET is based at Donghua University’s downtown campus, which means that students have easy access to all corners of this vibrant city.

LEARNING CHINESECET has operated intensive Chinese language programs for over 30 years and is known for its superiority in the language classroom. Experienced instructors, intensive curricula and out-of-classroom practice ensure that CET students embark on their internships with solid language skills.

EXCURSIONS: SEEING THE HOST CITYThe programs use longstanding connections to arrange excursions for students. Shanghai students might learn the art of deciphering hidden historical signs, walk through the disappearing old city, or tour secret villas not included in any tour book. In Beijing, students might interact with artists in the 798 Art District, meet with prominent journalists, or visit a traditional Chinese medicine clinic.

ACADEMICS: UNDERSTANDING CHINACourses in Chinese history, economics, political science, film and environmental studies take full advantage of the host city. A history course in Shanghai might lead students to the Propaganda Poster Arts Center. A philosophy course in Beijing might take students to a Buddhist temple to visit with monks.

FULL SUPPORT FROM STAFFOn-site staff teams help students adjust to life in China. Leading those teams are the CET Directors, who inspire with their knowledge, experience and China savvy. Jeremy Friedlein (Shanghai), a CET staff member for 10 years and resident of China 20, shares his wide network of connections with students. Dr. David Moser (Beijing) holds a PhD in Chinese philosophy, served as host at China Central Television, and contributes regularly to the China blogosphere.

Each CET China student shares a dormitory room with a Chinese roommate. Many student and roommate pairs quickly become friends, and students soon find that

their roommates are goldmines of insider information— where to get the best bowl of noodles, how to create an account on Weibo (China’s Twitter), what streets to avoid at rush hour.

WHO IS CET?CET Academic Programs is a study abroad organization based in Washington, DC that has been designing and administering innovative educational programs abroad since 1982. Originally “China Educational Tours,” CET began operations in Beijing, later expanding to other cities in China and then to other countries around the world. Today, CET offers semester and summer study abroad programs in Brazil, China, the Czech Republic, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Tunisia and Vietnam, as well as short-term, customized programs worldwide.
