Certified Business Enterprise Viewer
Quick Reference Guide
2
Introduction
The Certified Business Enterprise Viewer provides an online,
searchable tool to locate and view information about Disadvantaged
Business Enterprises (DBEs), Minority-owned Business Enterprises
(MBEs), and Women-owned Business Enterprises (WBEs) certified to
do business in New York State.
It is a map-centric way to interact with the same data from the NYS
M/WBE Directory of Certified Firms and the UCP DBE Directory.
Users can easily filter by data attributes such as commodity code, key
word, and more. Users can also drop a pin, or draw a line or area of
interest on a map to help identify certified business enterprises within
a given distance to a project being let.

Source Data
The Certified Business Enterprise Viewer uses data that is believed to be
authoritative. However, data collection/QA occurs outside of NYSDOT and
some issues such as PO Box Numbers recorded in Physical Street Address
fields are known to exist. Simple data issues like street address errors can
potentially cause inaccurate results to be generated in the app.
The Viewer is designed to maximize visibility of certified business enterprises
when dealing with address/geo-coding issues, and will display prospective
DBE/MBE/WBE vendors matched at the County level, even if an exact physical
address cannot be geo-coded.
Users should use data from the Viewer in the same manner as they would data
from the Directory and validate prospective enterprises in accordance with
established DBE/MBE/WBE utilization best practices. Data in the Viewer is
currently synced with the source directory on a weekly basis.

Tips & Tricks for Using Certified Business Enterprise Viewer
The Certified Business Enterprise Viewer is designed to support multiple
workflows normally engaged for DBE/MBE/WBE utilization efforts.
In some instances, starting a search by Certification Type, then narrowing it by
Commodity Code/Keyword, and then by Location may be most useful.
In other cases, starting a search by Location, and then narrowing it by
Certification Type and/or Commodity Code/Key Word might work best.
Try multiple methods to see what works best for you and the utilization
goal you are trying to achieve.
In most cases, once you have completed your search(es) for prospective
Certified Business Enterprises for a project, you will want to export the data to
a spreadsheet (Export to CSV) so you can annotate it and record your
outreach activities/results. Users can export data to a CSV from
