CERTIFICATE IN AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEERINGGain the necessary skills to become an apprentice motor mechanic.
PROGRAMME INFORMATIONThe aim of this programme is to prepare students for employment as an apprentice in the automotive industry or for further study towards becoming an automotive engineer.
The content of this programme is split between classroom based theory, practical work and work placement in the industry.
The programme covers the following:
> Automotive electrical and electronics
> Fuel and exhaust systems
> Preventative maintenance
> Transmission systems
> Workshop engineering
> Engine dismantling and rebuilding
> Customer service, sales, transactions
> Communication
One day each week may be spent working in automotive workshops in the region. This gives students the opportunity to put the skills and knowledge that they are learning into practice, while having the opportunity to develop customer service skills.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIESGraduates of the Certificate in Automotive Engineering can seek apprenticeships in a range of motor trades, including:
> Automotive engineering
> Motorcycle engineering
> Automotive electrical engineering
> Automotive machining
> Automotive heavy engineering (diesel)
> Small engine servicing
> Brake service engineering
Youth guarantee programmes are free, one year, full-time and are designed for school leavers.

> Must be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
> Must have 8 credits NCEA Level 1 in each of numeracy and literacy or equivalent skills and knowledge
