About this workbook This workbook has been designed as a summative assessment tool for the units:
Assemble Floristry Products
Prepare and Care for Floristry Stock
Apply Safe Working Practices
Apply Point of Sale Handling Procedures
Organise and Complete Daily Work Activities
Recognise Flower and Plant Materials Students will be required to successfully complete all components of this workbook in class to achieve competency in the units listed above and will be required to submit their workbook to their facilitator at the end of each semester for marking and periodically throughout the year for inspection when requested. If components of this workbook are incomplete at the end of the year you may be deemed Not Competent in one or more of the units listed above. Your facilitator will instruct you on how and when you should complete tasks in class and is there to assist you achieve the outcomes. Please ask questions and clarify what is required if you are unsure at any stage.

Student Assessment Guide SFL20110 TAFE Course number 20055 National Course Code: SFL20110 Course qualification and name Certificate II in Floristry (Assistant)
TAFE NSW Course Number: 20055 Version: 1 Course Outcomes: This qualification reflects the role of individuals who possess a defined and
limited range of basic floristry technical skills. They are involved in
mainly
routine and repetitive tasks using limited practical skills and basic
floristry
operational knowledge. They work under direct supervision.
What you must do to complete the course: The course structure below shows what you must do to complete this course.
The
units/modules are arranged in groups and sometimes also in subgroups.
You must complete each group as specified as well as following the course
completion instructions. If a course contains optional groups there will be
a
statement at the top of the course indicating how many you must do. At the
top of any group containing optional subgroups there will be a statement
saying
how many you must do.
This qualification reflects the packaging requirements for SFL20110
Certificate
II in Floristry (Assistant) within the Floristry Training Package (SFL10).
The rules from the SFL10 Training Package are as follows:
Qualification rules

To achieve the SFL20110 Certificate II in Floristry (Assistant), 12 units
must
be completed:
- All eight (8) core units
- Four (4) elective units
- a minimum of two (2) elective units must be selected from the elective
units
listed below

- the remaining units may be selected from this or another endorsed Training
Package or accredited course, these must be units which are first packaged
at
AQF level 1,2 or 3.
In all cases, selection of electives must be guided by the job outcome
sought,
local industry requirements and the characteristics of this qualification (as
per the AQF descriptors).
To satisfy the Training Package requirements, this TAFE NSW course has been
strucured as follows:
Group 1 - Core Units

Group 2 - Elective Units

At least 2 units must be completed.
Group 3 - Units from this or other Training Package or accredited course at
AQF
level 1, 2 or 3.

1. LEARNER SUPPORT
Students who require support to meet their learning goals may co-enrol in the
Learner Support course (TAFE Course Number 9999). Talk to your teacher if you
think you may require learner support.
2. SELECTION OF ELECTIVES
Talk to your teacher and/or workplace trainer to ensure that your combination
of electives provides you with a suitable vocational outcome.
3. RECOGNITION
If you have completed other relevant training you may be eligible to have
units of competency from previous training counted towards completion for
this
course. Talk to your teacher or workplace trainer if you think you may be
eligible for recognition for units previously completed.
4. PREREQUISITE UNITS
Some units in this course may have prerequisites that must be completed in
a lower level qualification or selected as part of this course. Refer to
the Training Package or consult your teacher for information about
prerequisites to elective units.

Introduction and Overview
Welcome to your eLearning experience a Northern Sydney Institute. This induction
guide has been designed to support your eLearning journey and to provide an
overview of this component of your course.
In this guide you will find details on how to log in to and navigate Sakai as well as
instructions on forwarding your TAFE Gmail account to your personal email.
All the information contained within this document will be covered in the face to
face orientation session. If after this session you are still experiencing issues
navigating the site you should contact your facilitator.
The online learning component of this course has been divided up across both

Quick Start Guide
Log onto your computer and open up your browser to access the internet.
Go to the URL: http://www.nsi.tafensw.edu.au
Sakai will open in a new window. Enter your DET Username (For example: john.citizen1) and password. This is the same username and password that you use to access the DET Portal and E-Services
From the Select an online service drop-
down menu in the top right-hand corner,
select Sakai. Press the log on button

Click the My Sites tab near the top of the screen. A list of the course (units) sites you belong
to will be displayed. Click the link for the course (unit) that you want.
When you open the Sakai site for the unit you will see a home page with the learning
objectives and link to the student assessment guide

Finally, Sakai provides you with a private workspace that allows you to check class
announcements, store material and work on personal projects. The tools for these are listed
on the left hand side of your screen when you log into the online learning site.
To log out, click on the Logout link of the top right
hand corner of the screen. (Don’t worry if the screen flickers)

Floristry Sakai Site Orientation
After you have successfully logged into Sakai you will come to the following screen.
Sakai has 2 main tabs. These are called ‘My Workspace’ and ‘My Sites’
When you log in you are automatically taken to the ‘My Workspace’ tab.
‘My Workspace’ is a personal area that you can use to record due dates of
assignments, view your announcements for the sites you are a member of and
store documents you may be working on. There is NO course content in the
‘My Workspace area
Calendar tool is used for recording
the due date of assessment tasks.
You can add items to the calendar to
remind you when tasks are due
Resources tool allows you to upload
files you may be working on and
stores them until you are ready to
submit them.
Announcements tool is where you
can view all announcements posted
by your facilitator for any of your
units of study

Assemble Floristry Products SFLDEC201A Practical Assessment Guide
Each practical design taught in class will be assessed by the class teacher at some stage throughout the year. Each design must reach a minimum standard expected in the Floristry Industry and be completed in the set time frame in order for the student to pass this unit. The following paragraphs outline general details of how practical work is assessed and the criteria used to determine grade levels. More information will be provided by the class teacher when delivering each specific design. The final decision on your results will be determined by the class teacher. In general the criteria that designs are assessed against to determine a pass mark are as follows:
Floral arrangement must exhibit the qualities of the design being assessed
Floral arrangement must be constructed applying the elements and principles of design specific to that item
Plant materials used must be of a saleable quality
Presentation, security and quality of wrapping and packaging must be of merchantable quality
Construction techniques are applied to the design in terms of security, stability, portability
Floral arrangement must be finished satisfactorily in terms of quality, covering mechanics, visual impact and appeal
Floral arrangement must be made within a reasonable and saleable price range
Time frame allocated must be adhered to
If a student meets the above criteria then they will be deemed competent and receive a pass mark In recognition of students who go above and beyond a competent level TAFE NSW has introduced grading enabling students to achieve a credit or a distinction in their practical floristry skills. To achieve a higher grade students need to consistently demonstrate skills over and above what is required. In general the criteria used to determine whether a student is awarded a credit or distinction grade is as follows
Good colour coordination of flowers to sundry items such as wrapping and ribbon
Effective and striking colour harmony used to enhance design
Creativity of wrapping and packaging
Exceptional quality and conditioning of plant materials and sundry items
Advanced knowledge and understanding of elements and principles demonstrated
Tidiness and definition of shape of arrangement
Excellent economy of materials demonstrated
Inclusion of embellishments to enhance arrangement
Suitability of arrangement to a specified occasion in terms of colours, flowers chosen and embellishments used (if applicable)
If a student meets some or all of the above criteria then they may be eligible to receive a credit or distinction grade as long as all criteria for a pass grade is also met.

Costing sheets and order forms Introduction
The following pages contain a series of order forms and costing sheets. You are required to complete a costing sheet and an order form for each design
you learn. Your facilitator will advise you on the occasion for the order and you may be asked to complete some of the order forms as role plays or fulfil an order that someone
else has given you.
Mark ups for your costing sheets will vary the same as they would if you were working in the industry and worked in different workplaces. Mark ups will range from 150% to 300%. Your facilitator will advise you which mark-up they require each time or you may determine a mark-up amount as part of a class activity.
Either way your calculations need to be accurate for the mark up amount given. There are some activities at the end of this section to practice your calculations.
Each order form and Costing sheet form part of your overall assessment for this
unit and all must be completed.
You will also be required to ring up the sale on the cash register and attach a receipt for your order to your workbook.

Flower Roles in Designing Line flowers – These flowers create the outline or framework for you to work into. In traditional/decorative designs these are the first flowers to be placed and should be placed EVENLY throughout your design. Features of these flowers include
Elongated bloom (active line)
Subordinate to focal flowers
Sturdy stems
one bloom per stem* *This may vary with flowers such as delphinium etc where there are many flowers but they create a single impression Give 5 examples
__________________________________________________________ Focal flowers – these are the showiest flowers in the bunch they dominate the display and give it substance. In traditional/decorative designs they should be worked in after the line has been determined. They can be used to create an emphasis in a particular area as well (called the Focal area) These flowers are usually the most expensive items in the design Features of these flowers include:

one bloom per stem
sturdy stems
Round, square or triangular bloom (passive line) Give 5 examples
___________________________________________________________ Transitional flowers – These are the least important but still necessary in most designs particularly traditional/decorative ones. As suggested they are the link or ‘transition’ between the line and focal completing the look of the design. They should be added to the design once the line and focal are in place and not ‘overused.’ These flowers are usually the cheapest items in the design Features of these flowers include:

Largish bunches (generally)
Smaller blooms than line or focal flowers

Retail Calculations The following pages contain some exercises in basic retail calculations ranging from addition and subtraction to multiplication and percentages. All these calculations are undertaken in a floristry environment every day sometimes with a calculator and sometimes without. Often you will need to think on your feet and basic additions may need to be done in your head efficiently and accurately to avoid loss of profit. Complete the following calculations.
