Emphasis

Art principle that helps the viewer locate the focal point

Emphasis can be achieved by

Isolating a detailed area or

Changing the value or color of an area

Slab Building Method

Method of creating pots by joining slabs of clay to quickly form the sides, top, and bottom of vessels

 Soaking the Kiln

Maintaining a warm temperature below the boiling point of water so that the water in the clay evaporates completely

Three Ways toApply Glaze to a Vessel

Dipping into a vat of glaze (most efficient)

2 Pouring

Pour glaze ontoThe outside orInto the inside

Brushing glaze on like a painting (least efficient)

Scratch Test

A test to determineThickness of glaze

After applying glaze scratch through to check glaze is 1 millimeter thick
