Century Furniture- Bob Timberlake Home

Bob Timberlakewas born in 1937 in Rowan County, North Carolina. Bob and his wife Kaymake their home in Lexington, North Carolina, where Bob has a studio. Bob and Kay have three children and seven grandchildren. Selected honorsinclude: the Albert Schwietzer medal for Artistry; the American ForestryAward; North Carolina Public Servant of the Year; the Iron Eyes Cody Award;and the Outstanding Alumnus Award from the University of North Carolinaat Chapel Hill.

At the age of 33, Bob was encouraged by Andrew Wyeth to devote himself to painting full-time. His first three solo exhibitions at New York’s HammerGalleries were sold out days before their openings. He has held numeroussolo museum exhibitions, including the North Carolina Museum of Art inRaleigh, the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, D.C., the Frye Museum inSeattle, and the Isetan Gallery in Tokyo. Bob designed both the North Carolina and South Carolina statehood stamps, and the commemorative postcard marking the bicentennial of the University of North Carolina atChapel Hill.

In 1990, Bob launched a comprehensive furniture line based on his designs.The World of Bob Timberlake® furniture collection became one of the most successful line introductions in the history of the industry. Bob has also received some of the industry’s highest awards for his designs.

Following the success of The World of Bob Timberlake®, Bob founded Bob Timberlake, Inc. Today, under his watchful vision, Bob Timberlake, Inc. licenses products in over 20 categories. With this success has emerged additional furniture collections, Bob Timberlake Apparel and the expansions of Bob Timberlake retail galleries in Lexington (established 1977) and BlowingRock, North Carolina.

Bob Timberlake has used the huge palette, imagination, and capabilities thatCentury Furniture offers and created a collection that expands on his uniquesensibilities and passion for all things comfortable. From the design to thecraftsmanship, all ninety plus pieces in the initial launch with Century, showcasethe casual elegance for which Bob Timberlake is known. The Heritage finish is a combination of multiple stages of handdistressing with a fifteen-step finishing process which together create a feeling of age, as if each piece were loved by generations of owners. Seasoned crafts people spend hours working over eachpiece of furniture to ensure that the distressing is authentic andnatural. After the pieces have gone through distressing, the finishingprocess begins. The Heritage finish, a clear brown with earthytones, requires 15 steps, each one worked into the one before, tobring out the depth and clarity in the wood. The final result is abreathtaking piece of furniture that will add warmth and beauty to your home.

Vintage Distressing is an option for almost every piece in BobTimberlake Home. As seen in the table detail above, Vintage distressing entails extra steps of physical distressing done to thepiece of furniture. We achieve this look through a particularly difficult and physical type of distressing, hand planing. Our artisans work for hours to achieve this deeply worn and aged feel. Vintage distressing is shown here with the Heritage finish,but it can be specified with any of Century’s finish options on Bob Timberlake Home pieces.

Shown in the Heritagefinish, a rich, warm brown with hand distressing that gives each piece the feeling of age, Century also utilizes their palette of paint finishes to play upaccents and add a bit of unexpected to the rooms. A deeper distressing option,Vintage, is also available on the Home Collection pieces.

The upholstery showcases Mr. Timberlake's eye for texture and layering.These pieces delight and surprise with the combination of materials andplacements. Combining distressed leather, corduroy and waxed cotton on one chair, it's almost as if a Barbour jacket transformed into a comfortableclub chair. In 2011 Century Furniture partnered with iconic American painter and designer, Bob Timberlake, to design and build his new collections of furniturebased on the places, textures and memories of his storied life in the ruralSouth. This partnership of two North Carolina families has created beautifuland comfortable furniture built right here in North Carolina. Cherished today for their beauty and quality, these pieces should be passed down through generations of families and become the heirlooms of tomorrow.
