Established in December 2006, the center provides a place where inventors of all kinds — including those from rural areas — can bring their ideas and prototypes, work them to perfection, and make them available to the masses.

We also envision channeling young students’ energy and enthusiasm towards innovation, and motivating them to come up with creative products and engineering solutions to problems related to energy savings and eco-friendly technology development.

The Center is open to receiving proposals from institutions, and also by individuals, who would like to develop technology for mass benefit.

The Center also provides advice on patenting and commercialization, as well as helping in establishing contacts with industry and communities to promote technology transfer.

The Campus

Our 66-acre campus, located on the main Gachibowli road (also called the Old Bombay highway) is well connected by bus and is on the route for the proposed metro rail. We are surrounded by many academic and research institutions like the Hyderabad Central University, Indian School of Business (ISB), TCS-CMC, Indian Immunologicals and Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Development Banking (JNIDB), and are minutes away from the bustling HiTech City Center and Lingampally, which are major shopping areas. Lingampally is also the nearest railway station.

45 Cam

On-campus facilities include a bank extension counter, ATM machine, stationary shop, and laundry services.

The campus has been developed quite a bit since the institute was started in 1998. Presently the academic, administration & research labs are in four large 3-fl oor buildings and construction will be completed soon of a new 5-storey academic block, which will house more classrooms, labs, student workplaces and a bigger library.

“The Students Life Committee (SLC) is there for the creation and improvement of extracurricular space for the students. Stressing on relationship building, based on mutual trust and respect, it works towards empowering students, rights and respon-sibilities included, to manage this space on their own.”

Prof Abhijit Mitra, in-Charge,Student Life Committee

We are an educational institution and a residential community, and seek to provide an academic environment and a range of programs that sustain and enhance the physical, psychological and emotional health of undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, faculty and staff. Consistent effort is made to achieve an appropriate balance between work and personal/family life.

Non-academic and extra-curricular student activities are coordinated by the Student Life Committee (SLC), comprising of faculty members as well as student representatives. The faculty coordinators of the Sports Council and Cultural Council, who look after the regular sports and cultural activities and facilitate the functioning of various clubs and teams, are members of the SLC.

Each student is assigned a faculty member as his or her Academic Counselor, who not only guides him or her in choosing the appropriate courses but also helps in overcoming any non-academic problems that he or she might face during the stay at IIIT-H.

’’

“The life on our campus is lively, vibrant and wholesome. Wholesome, because of the choices one has and the fl exibility in the system to implement new ideas . IIIT-H is not only an educational institution, I would say it’s a family. A family which grows, learns and “has fun” together, and in which each member has an important role to play in its campus life, be it in organization or participation. ”

“IIIT-H is a young Institute. Best part of being in a young Institute is that you can grow with the Institute. You can be part of the creation and nourishment of processes that make the place grow. IIIT-H provides ample space for a student to experiment and learn, not just in academics, but also in being part of the shape of life at campus”

... Pranav Kumar Vasishta, MS research student

The classes end at 3PM, which gives the students ample time for sports and cultural activities like music, photography, and dance. Many of these activities have special instructors. We are next door to Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh’s Gachibowli stadium, so the students have access to an Olympic-size swimming pool and in-door badminton courts.

We hold an Annual Sports Day and our teams actively participate in intra- and inter-college competitions.

Alumni

The Institute’s alumni group came into being with the fi rst set of graduating students in 2002, with 49 from the undergraduate programme and 16 from the postgraduate programme. The alumni has now grown to more than a thousand, with an equal representation from the graduates and postgraduates.

Our alumni can be found all across India, Europe, the USA, and several other countries in Asia Pacifi c, pursuing employment, higher education or entrepreneurship.

- Employment: Many work in a wide cross section of industry – telecommunications, information technology, retail, banking, consulting, travel, shipping, logistics, etc.

- Higher Education: Some are pursuing higher education in engineering and management in premier schools in India or overseas.

- Entrepreneurship: A signifi cant number of the alumni have taken to entrepreneurship by setting up companies to offer innovative products and services.

Since inception, the Alumni have remained in constant engagement with the institute, and one of their major contributions is the creation of an alumni fund to support the education of needy students at the Institute. To date, a number of students have benefi ted from the alumni fund, which is growing at a remarkable pace.
