1. Introducon to Family Literacy This two-day training covers basic principles such as language development, environmental print and early literacy development. It provides parcipants with the foundaonal understandings and best pracces for their work in family literacy. Introducon to Family Literacy is recommended as a prerequisite for all other family literacy cerficate training. 2. Books for Babies This one-day training provides the informaon needed to set up and deliver the Books for Babies program. Books for Babies is a 4-week program that encourages parents to share books with their babies, starng in their first year. Informaon covered includes: book sharing strategies, emergent literacy, ages and stages of language development and common parenng quesons. 3. Books Offer Our Kids Success (B.O.O.K.S.) This 1.5 day training prepares organizaons to set up and deliver a B.O.O.K.S. program. B.O.O.K.S. is an 8-week program based on the Homespun program developed at Brooks Campus of Medicine Hat College. During the program, parents learn how to extend the book sharing experience with their children using craſts, play, drama, wring and more. Informaon covered includes: book sharing strategies, supporng first language use, story extenders, and adult facilitaon. 4. Rhymes that Bind This 1.5 day training prepares organizaons to set up and deliver a Rhymes that Bind program. Rhymes that Bind is a 10-week oral language program, adapted from the Parent-Child Mother Goose Program® in Toronto. Informaon covered includes: oral language development in babies and toddlers, sharing of rhymes, finger plays, songs and simple movement games, telling simple stories, and supporng posive parent/child interacons. 5. Storysacks This one-day training prepares organizaons to set up and deliver a Storysacks program. A Storysack is a large cloth bag, made by parents or other volunteers in the community, and contains a good quality children’s book and supporng materials to smulate reading acvies. Informaon covered includes: choosing books, cultural adaptaon, engaging parcipants in creang materials, good facilitaon strategies, and hands-on pracce in making a storysack. Training Costs Include: One-day Training (6 hours) - $500 Extended or 1.5 Day Training (8 hours) - $750 Two-Day Training (12 hours) - $1,000 Addional costs may include: manuals, administraon fees, and travel. 1. Introduction to Family LiteracyThis two-day training covers basic principles such as language development, environmental print and early literacy development. It provides participants with the foundational understandings and best practices for their work in family literacy.

Introduction to Family Literacy is recommended as a prerequisite for all other family literacy certificate training.

2. Books for Babies This one-day training provides the information needed to set up and deliver the Books for Babies program. Books for Babies is a 4-week program that encourages parents to share books with their babies, starting in their first year. Information covered includes: book sharing strategies, emergent literacy, ages and stages of language development and common parenting questions.

A Storysack is a large cloth bag, made by parents or other volunteers in the community, and contains a good quality children’s book and supporting materials to stimulate reading activities. Information covered includes: choosing books, cultural adaptation, engaging participants in creating materials, good facilitation strategies, and hands-on practice in making a storysack.

Training Costs Include:• One-day Training (6 hours) - $500• Extended or 1.5 Day Training (8 hours) - $750• Two-Day Training (12 hours) - $1,000

Additional costs may include: manuals, administration fees, and travel.
