  • OverviewThe Dual LLM in Commercial Law (London and Singapore) is a unique opportunity to study commercial law in two of the world’s major business and financial centres, London and Singapore, and gain insight into the legal underpinnings of commerce in the West and East.

    This collaborative intensive programme is designed to give students a broad overview of Asian commercial law in Singapore and, by taking a series of specialist taught modules and a dissertation in London, providing an in depth understanding of commercial law and its application to everyday practice. By the end of their studies, students will be equipped with a thorough understanding of key aspects of commercial law from multiple perspectives, which will enable them to develop an in-depth appreciation of different regions, approaches in resolving commercial problems.

    On successful completion students will be awarded a Dual LLM in Commercial Law (London and Singapore) from each university, Queen Mary University of London and Singapore Management University (SMU).

    This 16-month Master of Law programme offers a greater variety and breadth of experience than a standard one year programme.

    Programme StructureThis course is taught over a 16-month period from January to May. 135 credits from Queen Mary and 135 credits from SMU (270 credits in total).

    Queen Mary University of London• January Queen Mary Induction: Students start their dual

    degree in London

    • 135 credits taken in London at Centre for Commercial Law Studies (CCLS), including a dissertation

    • Late April-early June: Examination period for taught modules• April-December supervisory meetings and writing-up for

    dissertation, submitted in January to Queen Mary

    Singapore Management University (SMU)• August SMU Induction: Students continue their dual

    degree in Singapore

    • August-April six taught modules being delivered at SMU (135 credits)

    Entry RequirementsA degree in Law, or a degree with a substantial law context, of at least 2.1 honours (or equivalent). Law graduates with 2.2 honours, who have other legal qualifications and/or substantial professional legal experience may also qualify. Non-law graduates may be considered on the basis of any professional experience that directly relates to the subject area.

    How to applyAll applications for the Dual LLM in Commercial Law (London and Singapore) should be made directly to Queen Mary University London. Applicants who satisfy Queen Mary’s admissions criteria are shortlisted. Queen Mary will pass on shortlisted applications directly to SMU admissions for the next stage of the admission process.

    Applicants will then go through the SMU’s admissions process. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to take a short test and attend a selection interview with a selector from SMU. The interview and test can be done face-to-face or remotely online if required.

    Fees to be paid in two instalments (50% by the start of the term in January paid to Queen Mary, and 50% in August paid to SMU).
