History of the Moravian Church The Moravian Church had its origin in the pre- Reformation awakening under John Hus. Proclaiming that Jesus Christ is Lord, the Moravian Church is recog- nized as the oldest organized Protestant denomination in the world. Celebrating the sacraments of Holy Com- munion and Baptism, the Moravian Church places much emphasis on mission, music, and education. In agreement with the other creeds of the Christian Church, such as the Apostles’ Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Augsburg Confession, the Moravian Church has adopted as its basic motto, “In essentials, unity; in nonessentials, liberty; in all things, love.” Central’s Director of Music Rebecca Kleintop Owens has been the Director of Music and Organist of Central Moravian Church since September of 2002. Previously Senior Organist at the internationally televised Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, as well as Assistant Grand Court Organist of the Wanamaker Organ in Philadelphia (the world’s largest playing organ), Rebecca has recorded several CD’s with Tim Zimmerman and the King’s Brass, and has a collection of hymn introduc- tions and interludes, titled The Coral Ridge Collection, published by Warner Brothers Publications. An active recitalist, accompanist, and clinician, Rebecca earned an Artist Diploma in organ perform- ance from the Curtis Institute of Music (Philadelphia), and a Bachelor of Music degree, magna cum laude, from Moravian College. Rebecca is also the Choir Director and Organist for the Moravian Theological Seminary in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Central’s Music Committee The music committee, chaired by Llyena Boylan, oversees the music program at Central Moravian Church in conjunction with the Director of Music and the Senior Pastor.
