I have heard from many folks around the country the same statement. “What we need is genuine Holy Spirit revival.” I would agree the need is great, but are we truly ready for God to move in a mighty way in our churches. Jesus said “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea,

and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” Acts 1:8 KJV. We have the

challenge to take the Gospel to the ends of the earth. Dennis Pethers says “the crisis facing the church today is that the people who are coming to church are not sharing what they know with people who aren’t.”

I would submit that we have a “going” problem in our churches today. We open the doors and wait to see who comes rather than going as Jesus said “And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.” (Luke 14:23 HCSB) Can you just imagine what would happen if all across America churches were empty because the people took serious the call to tell the world about Jesus and they left their pews and went to take it to the streets?

As I begin my journeys around the Central Baptist Association I am excited to see we are going to the streets to seek the lost. Heyworth Baptist just recently celebrated a high

attendance of 68 in their service as well as 4 baptisms. Tom Miller is serving as the interim pastor there. Please pray for this church.

Galilee Baptist is taking a group to Guatemala on a mission trip at the end of March. First Baptist, Mt Zion is taking a group to Haiti this fall. Tabernacle is taking a group to Guatemala this July. I am sure there are others I have just not heard about yet.

Let me encourage you to participate in the Choose2 emphasis this year. The Choose2 goal is that every Illinois Baptist will “choose” to pray “twice” daily for the salvation of “two” lost friends, family members, neighbors, or co-workers. Then invite your Choose2 family or friend to at least “2” events at your church this year, and look for ways to minister “to” them at least “twice” this year. The two people you choose should be someone with whom your life regularly comes into frequent contact.

So get yourself ready with prayer and discipleship, then go and witness.

Paul writes in Ephesians 3:20 that God is

able to do “immeasurably more than all we

ask or imagine” and He continues to do

amazing things through FBC of Mt Zion.

This fall we were blessed with the opportu-

nity to purchase property adjacent to the

church’s current location.

The Senior Pastor of

FBC is Tracy Smith.

He retired from the

United States Marine

Corps in 2007 and

entered the ministry

on a full time basis.

Pastor Tracy has been serving the families of

FBC since January of 2011. Our Associate

Pastor/Education, with a focus on growing

the children’s ministry, is David Marshall.

Pastor David is a retired math teacher, and

we just celebrated 25 years of David serving

FBC. Our newest staff member is Sarah

Dulak. She is a full-time wife and mother of

six-month-old Grace and serves the church

as Director of Music Ministries.

We are happy to announce that a Mothers

of Preschoolers (MOPS) group has recently

been chartered here at First Baptist Church of

Mt. Zion. This is the only MOPS group in

the Mt. Zion/Decatur area. We are very

excited about this new opportunity for moms

Pastor Tracy Smith

in our area. For the 2011-2012 MOPS year,

we will meet the 1st and 3rd Friday of each

month, August through May, from 9:30-

11:30am at the church.

God is doing great

things in our Children

Ministry. When God

placed AWANA on

our hearts, we were

averaging 4 children.

God has blessed us by

taking us from 4 each Wednesday to a high

of 48. We have had 6 decisions for Christ,

children and adults.

Cross Purpose is

First, Mt. Zion’s

Ministry to 7-12

grade students. Our

aims are to teach the

Bible, share the

gospel, provide

guidance, and encourage fellowship.

Whatever interests a student has, we have a

place and a purpose for him or her. Youth

meet every Sunday at 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.,

Wednesdays at 6 p.m. and additional times

of fun fellowships and activities. In 2011 our

students participated in M-Fuge at

Cumberland College where they ministered

to the surrounding community in a variety of

ways.

Lincoln Southern- This has been

the third season for our AWANA Club.

The first two seasons were somewhat of

a struggle but Praise God He has really

blessed this season. Our AWANA has

grown tremendously. We have started a

new Outreach Program, please keep us

in your prayers that God will bless. We

look forward to our choir’s

presentation, of "Worshiping in Song,"

an Easter Musical Medley. Rachael

Allen, Tom & Janice Rock’s grand-

daughter, talked to us about her 2011

year long Missionary Journey thru

South Africa, India, Cambodia,

Malaysia, Australia, Romania, Nepal,

Moldova, Swaziland, Mozambique, and

Thailand. Please keep her in your

prayers. We have two new members

and two awaiting baptism. We have

also been busily working on the

physical aspect of our church, as we

have added new double doors to the

entrance of the Fellowship Hall and a

Forsyth- will be showing the

movie "Courageous" on both Saturday

& Sunday, March 10-11 at 6:00

pm. Three leaders attended the

Churches of Strength Conference.

service as a “Pack a Pew/Be

Family gave a mini concert of

Southern Gospel music, Pastor Tom

Miller gave a "brief message," and

Dennis Blankenship baptized 4 of his

great-grandchildren. Many family,

friends and school teachers were

present for the baptismal service.

What a blessing! We are looking

Looking at involving our folks in

FBC, Mt. Zion-The 2011 IBSA

Children’s Ministry Day saw 2

children from FBC participate. This

year we have 17 children participating

and learning about ministering to

others. In December we were led to

establish a goal for the Lottie Moon

Christmas Offering of $5,000 and

God blessed us as His people

faithfully and prayerfully gave

$5,337. On Sunday, February 26th at

10:15am the group, Jews for Jesus,

presented “Christ in the Passover.”

They presented a traditional Jewish

Passover meal and explained the

incredible symbolism of Christ’s

presence in each element. Then on

April 1st at 10:15am, the FBC of Mt

Zion choir will present the musical

“The Eyes of Faith.”
