CEN HOSTS ON MAY 15TH 2015MAKING CONNECTIONS THAT MATTER CONFERENCE
The CEN conference is fast approaching, on Friday May 15th at the Hartford
Convention Center. The conference is shaping up to be our best yet, with two
confirmed keynote speakers, over 400 registered participants and strong support
from our vendor community. We look forward to welcoming you on the day and
encourage you to post your thoughts and photos at: #CEN15Conference.
We are pleased to provide you detailed information about our sessions, including
abstracts on each presentation and speakers' biographies via our mobile app.

conference experience.
If you haven't done so already, please register to attend the conference. We will
also be accepting walk-ins on the day.

The advantage of this partnership to CEN members is that you areable to have faster, more reliable and more secure access due to the directaccess to local cache housed in East Hartford. Akamai delivers between 15-30%of all Web traffic. Specifically of interest to our research and education networkis the accessibility provided to Universities, news, social media and financialnews sources, the Department of Education, in addition to interconnectivity withInternet2.

Colocation with Cervalis in Norwalk
On March 12th, 2015, CEN members visited Cervalis' datacenter in Norwalk.CEN is pleased to facilitate access to Cervalis for power and rack space andmembers are encouraged to contract directly with Cervalis for these services.However, if you have a need for nonstandard equipment, please contact CENdirectly in regards to sharing CEN cage space. We are envisioning a future visitto Norwalk over the summer if there is sufficient interest. Please contact CEN ifyou would like to visit their Norwalk Datacenter ([email protected]).

Partnership with Internet2 reaping rewards

CTGig Project
You might have been seeing some of the press lately regarding the CTGigProject. If not, we've included some below.
The background story: Jan 2015 from Broadband Communities
The interplay with CEN: March 2015 from TriCorner News and April 2015 fromBackChannel.
This is a project aimed at providing gigabit Internet access in CT towns and citiesat the level of the local constituencies (residential). This project is seen as acomplement to services provided by CEN and should it move forward, would besomething that could work in partnership with our existing network, with theCTGig Project providing the last mile connections within their towns and cities tointerested individuals.

Tech Update
CEN is currently working with its regional partners: NYSERNet, NEREN andOSHEAN in order to best plan CEN's backbone network extension to New YorkCity!

CEN has helped towns manage their domain names. So far, we have been
involved with enfield.org and newingtonct.gov with rockyhillct.gov in the works.
Contact CEN if you would like help with managing your DNS name records and
we can provide you with assistance in DNS server management.
CEN has previously run informational sessions focused on technical skills
involving networking technologies and software. Let us know if you are
interested in learning more about how our knowledgeable engineering
practioners could offer an outreach class for your university or school

Municipality Project: Year Two Update
We are awaiting the announcement from theOffice of Policy and Management (OPM) and theGovernor's office on the second wave ofgrants associated with connecting MunicipalTown Halls across the state with the NutmegNetwork, made up of the Connecticut EducationNetwork and the Public Safety Data Network.This could mean new connections for up to 30towns/ COGs (those with pending grantrequests). This announcement could bring us up to a total of
85 connections for municipalities across CT. At present, CEN currently has 25Towns and COGs have connected so far from year 1 of this project, in additionto 30 towns from Year 2 (and 17 connections made outside the grant). Thisincludes Fairfield's connection to the Connecticut Education Network. For more information on this project, please contact [email protected] orcall her at (860) 622-4571.
