CELTIC MUSIC A Two Day Recorder Celebration

By POPULAR DEMAND! Two Days of Music from the Celtic Isles. We have structured it so you can participate both days or just one day.

Sunday will be a day of beautifully harmonized ensemble music for recorders arranged by Irish, Scottish and Welsh composers who really know how to write for recorder.

The Monday session will focus on learning how to ornament Irish music.

Looking forward to sharing some of the world’s greatest folk music with you.

Day 1: Sunday - A Day of Dances and Ayres - Paul Clark is our Irishman. Selected from his

many arrangements are Irish Suite and Three Avocations -settings of three of Thomas Moore’s Irish Melodies. By Alyson Lewin we have Two Ulster Folk Songs, by Marg Hall Four Irish Airs. Our Scottish composer is Marg Hall. Her selections are Scottish Border Suite, Fantasia on Burns Songs, & Elsie Marley and other Great Tunes from Northumberland. Other works are Dennis Bamforth’s Shetland Suite and Tom Johnston’s Three Scottish Country Dances. Alyson Lewin is from Wales, her lovely arrangement of three Welsh folksongs is titled West of the Severn, Marg Hall has done an arrangement called Five Fine Welsh Tunes. And if time permits we have two works that cover it all – Celtic Suite by Marg Hall and American composer Andrew Charlton’s iconic Celtic Fancies

FEE: $80 10am – 4pm Lunch included

Day 2: Monday – Ornamenting Irish Music – all you ever wanted to know about rolls,

crans, grace notes, triplets, slides and articulation. Then you’ll apply your new knowledge in some jigs, hornpipes and polkas.

FEE: $30 10am – 1pm

All events will take place at COURTLY MUSIC 89 River St. Third Floor Warrensburg, NY Advance sign-up and payment is required so we can properly prepare for each day.
