Confession and Absolution (8 am only)

The sign of the cross may be made by all in remembrance of their Baptism.

P In the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit.

C Amen.

P Beloved in the Lord! Let us draw near with a true heart and confess our sins unto God our Father, beseeching Him in the

name of our Lord Jesus Christ to grant us forgiveness.

P Our help is in the name of the Lord,

C who made heaven and earth.

P I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord,

C and You forgave the iniquity of my sin.

Kneel/Stand

Silence for reflection on God’s Word and for self-examination.

P O almighty God, merciful Father,

C I, a poor, miserable sinner, confess unto You all my sins and iniquities with which I have ever offended You and

justly deserved Your temporal and eternal punishment. But I am heartily sorry for them and sincerely repent of

them, and I pray You of Your boundless mercy and for the sake of the holy, innocent, bitter sufferings and death of

Your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, to be gracious and merciful to me, a poor, sinful being.

P Upon this your confession, I, by virtue of my office, as a called and ordained servant of the Word, announce the grace of

God unto all of you, and in the stead and by the command of my Lord Jesus Christ I forgive you all your sins in the name

of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit.

C Amen.

Public Recognition of the Baptism of Macklin Stephen Gangler (10.30 am only)

P In the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit.

C Amen.

The pastor addresses the sponsors.

P Beloved in the Lord, from ancient times the Church has observed the custom of appointing sponsors for baptismal

candidates and catechumens. In the Evangelical Lutheran Church sponsors are to confess the faith expressed in

the Apostles’ Creed and taught in the Small Catechism. They are to pray for them, support them in their

ongoing instruction and nurture in the Christian faith, and encourage them toward the faithful reception of the

Lord’s Supper. They are at all times to be examples to them of the holy life of faith in Christ and love for the

neighbor.

P Is it your intention to serve Macklin Stephen Gangler as sponsors in the Christian faith? If so, then answer: Yes,

with the help of God.

R Yes, with the help of God.

P God enable you both to will and to do this faithful and loving work and with His grace fulfill what we are unable

to do.

C Amen.

P Christ our Lord says in the last chapter of Matthew, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of

the Holy Spirit.” In the last chapter of Mark our Lord promises, “Whoever believes and is baptized will be

saved.” The Word of God also teaches that we are all conceived and born sinful and are under the power of the

devil until Christ claims us as His own. The apostle Peter has declared, “Baptism now saves you,” and this

promise of salvation is “for you and your children.” In Baptism God puts His name on us with the water and

His Word so that there may be no doubt that we are surely His by all that Christ has won for us through His

saving death and resurrection.

P Macklin Stephen Gangler was unable to be baptized in the presence of the congregation. That we may have the

certainty that he was baptized on April 5, 2020 by Rev. Michael Boyer with water in the name of the Father and

of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, you have come to attest to his Baptism in the presence of the congregation.

Before the Lord and His Church, I now ask you, was this Baptism administered as has been reported?

R Yes.

The pastor may place his hands on the head of the person whose Baptism is being recognized while saying:

P The almighty God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has given you the new birth of water and of the Spirit

and has forgiven you all your sins, strengthen you with His grace to life T everlasting.

C Amen.

The person whose Baptism is being recognized may be welcomed with the following:

A In Holy Baptism God the Father has made you a member of His Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, and an heir with us of

all the treasures of heaven in the one holy Christian and apostolic Church. We receive you in Jesus’ name as our

brother in Christ, that together we might hear His Word, receive His gifts, and proclaim the praises of Him who

called us out of darkness into His marvelous light.

C Amen. We welcome you in the name of the Lord.

Stand

While at the font, the pastor prays the following:

P Let us pray.

Almighty and most merciful God and Father, we thank and praise You that You graciously preserve and enlarge Your

family and have granted Macklin Stephen Gangler the new birth in Holy Baptism and made him a member of

Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, and an heir of Your heavenly kingdom. We humbly implore You that, as he

has now become Your child, You would keep him in his baptismal grace, that according to Your good pleasure

he may faithfully grow to lead a godly life to the praise and honor of Your holy name and finally, with all Your

saints, obtain the promised inheritance in heaven; through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

C Amen.

P Peace T be with you.

C Amen.

All return to their places.

Introit Psalm 89:15–18; antiphon: v. 1

I will sing of the steadfast love of the LORD, forever;

with my mouth I will make known your faithfulness to all generations.

Blessèd are the people who know the festal shout,

who walk, O LORD, in the light of your face,

who exult in your name all the day

and in your righteousness are exalted.

For you are the glory of their strength;

by your favor our horn is exalted.

For our shield belongs to the LORD,

our king to the Holy One of Israel.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son

and to the Holy Spirit;

as it was in the beginning,

is now, and will be forever. Amen.

I will sing of the steadfast love of the LORD, forever;

with my mouth I will make known your faithfulness to all generations.

Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Old Testament Reading Isaiah 25:6–9

6On this mountain the LORD of hosts will make for all peoples

a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wine,

of rich food full of marrow, of aged wine well refined.7And he will swallow up on this mountain

the covering that is cast over all peoples,

the veil that is spread over all nations.8He will swallow up death forever;

and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from all faces,

and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth,

for the LORD has spoken.9It will be said on that day,

“Behold, this is our God; we have waited for him, that he might save us.

This is the LORD; we have waited for him;

let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.”

A This is the Word of the Lord.

C Thanks be to God.

Epistle 1 Corinthians 15:19–26

19If in this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied.20But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21For as by a man came

death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. 22For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.23But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ. 24Then comes the end, when

he delivers the kingdom to God the Father after destroying every rule and every authority and power. 25For he must reign until

he has put all his enemies under his feet. 26The last enemy to be destroyed is death.

A This is the Word of the Lord.

C Thanks be to God.

Holy Gospel John 20.1-18

P The Holy Gospel according to St. John, the twentieth chapter.

C Glory be to Thee, O Lord.

1Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone

had been taken away from the tomb. 2So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved,

and said to them, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.” 3So Peter went

out with the other disciple, and they were going toward the tomb. 4Both of them were running together, but the other disciple

outran Peter and reached the tomb first. 5And stooping to look in, he saw the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in.6Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen cloths lying there, 7and the face cloth,

which had been on Jesus’ head, not lying with the linen cloths but folded up in a place by itself. 8Then the other disciple, who

had reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed; 9for as yet they did not understand the Scripture, that he

must rise from the dead. 10Then the disciples went back to their homes.11But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb, and as she wept she stooped to look into the tomb. 12And she saw two angels in

white, sitting where the body of Jesus had lain, one at the head and one at the feet. 13They said to her, “Woman, why are you

weeping?” She said to them, “They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him.” 14Having said

this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing, but she did not know that it was Jesus. 15Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are

you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away,

tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.” 16Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned and said to him in

Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means Teacher). 17Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the

Father; but go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”18Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord”—and that he had said these things to her.

P This is the Gospel of the Lord.

C Praise be to Thee, O Christ.

Nicene Creed

C I believe in one God,

the Father Almighty,

maker of heaven and earth

and of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ,

the only-begotten Son of God,

begotten of His Father before all worlds,

God of God, Light of Light,

very God of very God,

begotten, not made,

being of one substance with the Father,

by whom all things were made;

who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven

and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary

and was made man;

and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate.

He suffered and was buried.

And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures

and ascended into heaven

and sits at the right hand of the Father.

And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead,

whose kingdom will have no end.

And I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the Lord and giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father and the Son,

who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified,

who spoke by the prophets.

And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church,

I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins,

and I look for the resurrection of the dead

and the life T of the world to come. Amen.

Blessing of the Cross made by Gary Maxrhausen

P In the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit.

C Amen.

P Beloved in the Lord, St. Paul speaks of the importance of the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, saying: “When I came to

you, brothers, I did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God with lofty speech or wisdom. For I decided to

know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.” By His death on the cross our Lord won salvation for

us.

It is fitting that this cross be sanctified by the Word of God and prayer for our devotion and as a proclamation of His

atoning work for us.

P Our help is in the name of the Lord,

C who made heaven and earth.

P The Lord be with you.

C And also with you.

P Let us pray.

Merciful and everlasting God, You did not spare Your only Son but delivered Him up for us all that He might bear our

sins on the cross. Grant that our eyes may ever behold our Savior and His cross, that we may not fear the power of any

adversaries but rather rejoice in His victory for us; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with

You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

C Amen.

P The Lord Almighty, the Father, the T Son, and the Holy Spirit, bless this cross.

C Amen.

Prayer of the Church

Preface LSB 194

P The Lord be with you.

C And with thy spirit.

P Lift up your hearts.

C We lift them up unto the Lord.

P Let us give thanks unto the Lord, our God.

C It is meet and right so to do.

P It is truly meet, right, and salutary that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to You, holy Lord, almighty

Father, everlasting God, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who, out of love for His fallen creation, humbled Himself by

taking on the form of a servant, becoming obedient unto death, even death upon a cross. Risen from the dead, He has

freed us from eternal death and given us life everlasting. Therefore with angels and archangels and with all the company

of heaven we laud and magnify Your glorious name, evermore praising You and saying:

Sanctus LSB 195

Lord’s Prayer LSB 196

P Our Father who art in heaven,

hallowed be Thy name,

Thy kingdom come,

Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven;

give us this day our daily bread;

and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us;

and lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

C For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

The Words of Our Lord LSB 197

P Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and

gave it to the disciples and said: “Take, eat; this is My T body, which is given for you. This do in remembrance of Me.”

In the same way also He took the cup after supper, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying: “Drink of

it, all of you; this cup is the new testament in My T blood, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. This do, as

often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”

Pax Domini LSB 197

P The peace of the Lord be with you always.

C Amen.
