Celebration news term 6 week 5
Beech Class
This week in Beech class we have been learning all about France! We have completed acrostic poems, fact files, found out about the landmarks in France, draw the Eiffel Tower and looked at Van Gogh’s ‘Sunflowers’ painting and made our own versions!
We have had more children in school this week, and it has been lovely for all of the class to catch up and see each other after so long!
At school, we have been doing food tasting and building our own models of the Eiffel tower out of spaghetti and marshmallows.
Logan has also been to France and been to the Eiffel Tower – can you spot the picture of him outside of it?
A super effort this week Beech. A class full of Superstars – well done!
Acorns class
There has been a lot to celebrate in Acorns class this week. A fantastic start to a new month.
Our topic has been ‘Our Country’ where we have been learning about the differences between living in a town or in the countryside. J has been sorting the features of the town and the countryside. They have also been learning about the countries that make up the United Kingdom
In Literacy, the pupils have been inventing their own characters for the story of ‘The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse’. J has been busy inventing a town animal and a country animal for his new story. He has also been working hard on his plurals. Great job!
In Maths, Acorns have been experimenting with lighter and heavier. Donovan has been looking at items around the house to see which ones are the heaviest and which are the lightest. Great weighing skills there Donovan!
Linked to ‘differences’ was our social skills and J has been working with his sister to work out what is different about each other and what is similar. Through this task, they can then see that it is ok to like different things.
Edward has been perfecting his card playing skills and taking his dog for a walk. He has also been working hard with his maths and this week’s topic.
Finally, we have some maths work here completed by Donovan and Rhylei when they were in school.
Thank you to all the pupils in Acorns class for trying your best and to the parents for all of their support.
Acer Class (South)
This week in Acer, we have been learning a lot about Racism and equality to prepare us for entering BBC Radio 2’S Black Lives Matter 500 Words story writing competition. IN PSHE, we learned about what Racism is, and feelings associated with this, particularly in terms of the recent Black Lives Matter Movement. We also related this to how our pupils have felt that people see them ‘differently’ just because of their diagnosis.
In History, we have been learning about Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King and the contribution they made to the inclusive world we see today.
In Art, we have created posters about why the Black Lives Matter movement is so important, not just now, but for the future.
Finally, we wrote our entries – they have just been fantastic! We used Rosa Parks’ bus journey or Martin Luther King’s ‘I have a dream’ speech as the setting for our stories. We wrote from the perspective of someone who was at these significant events, exploring their feelings and the impact it had on their lives both at the time and in the future. I could not be prouder of the class – I will let you all know if we win!
Hazel Class South
This week there has been lots of fantastic learning at home. Archie has started his horse riding again and there has been some great art work produced. The class have designed and created masks out of clay and we have continued focussing on being healthy; we have prepared healthy snacks and spend lots of time developing our tennis skills and celebrating our football achievements. We have also been creative and created our own Haiku poetry. Well done Hazel Class!
Squirrel Class South
PLACE Class
In the Jungle, the mighty Jungle….
The Padlet theme this week has been the Jungle and Rainforest.
Children in school and at home have had the opportunity to learn about the layers of the Rainforest and how clouds produce rain. They have thought about what items they would need if they trekked into the Jungle and even written a Fact File on their favourite Jungle animal!!
Children in school worked hard to cut out Jungle animal masks that look super!
This week in PLACE class we have continued to build relationships and get to know each other as new classmates. We have also got lots of really interesting learning done! We have carried out some interesting science experiments, making lava lamps, rainbow jars and magic milk!
We have also been learning about measuring lengths. We have measured in standard units and nonstandard units. You can see some pictures of our pupils measuring in hands!
In English we have been learning all about adjectives. We have been writing and speaking using descriptive language, adjective strings and adverbs.
Maple Class
Week 10 has been Book and Film week take two in Maple class this week. We have extended the authors on the Padlet to include Dr Seuss and in class; read both The Cat in the Hat and Horton Hatches the Egg. Children took part in LOTC with Iris having amazing skills of perseverance and resilience whilst making a rope swing. All of the children in school created story stones and used them to make up their own oral stories.
Whilst learning at home Oliver has had a visit to Poole Harbour, James has watched and worked on the work of David Walliams, Joshua has continued his Pokémon learning and tried out school uniform, Ethan joined our online story time and Iris has been painting with watercolours.
Well done Maple Class
Acer Class: Project time!
This week, Acer class have been busy creating a Mini-project relating to their special interests.
We have started a Non-fiction Project book which we will continue publishing throughout the next 2 weeks. In writing, we have completed our front covers and page 1 - defining what our book is about. We included headings and sub-headings to organise our work, and we used our ICT skills to complete research and make notes beforehand. In Maths, we have been learning how to subtract decimals – in particular focussing on the formal written method which involves exchanging.
In Art/DT and Life-skills, we had a go at sewing! We practiced the running-stitch and some of us even had a go at the cross-stitch! Amazing!
As well as this, we have created Playdough models of something from our Project – some were so realistic they looked as though they could be used in real-life!
On top of this, some of us have been busy cooking, digging for diamonds (for Miss W) and saving the trees!
Well done to you all!
Yum! Well done, Harvey - They look delicious!
Pine Class
Hazel Class

France. Some of us have been learning
some French words and are looking forward
to sharing them in school. In Science we

‘Floor is Lava’ game. It was great fun and
they worked together well. We have
also been learning how to explain or maths

Life skills.
Maths
This week we’ve seen more students in school completing work in lessons, but we’ve also had Raife and Ben accessing the lessons via Microsoft Teams. In addition to the return to normal, we’ve had a massive surge in Sparx. Owen W has reached Level 3, Sophie F and Alfie C have gained level 2 and Jake K and Aaron M are Level 1. Huge congratulations to all our KS4 learners making progress this week.
Science
Elm
Miss Ben-Ali had a fantastic chat with Ben and Rupert about the International S[ace station on Microsoft Teams. Not only did this cheer up Miss’s day, but it also allowed her to see how her students were doing. Elm have Online Sessions every Wednesday at 1:30pm.
Sycamore
Raife has been working extremely hard at home on his drug development work, and the rest of sycamore have been in school starting their new topic on Cells! All of Sycamore have been working very well on their new GCSE content!
Cedar
Aaron and Toby have produced fantastic fact files on dinosaurs from their recent tasks on Padlet. Miss Ben-Ali definitely loved learning about their dinosaurs, but also loved Aaron’s invented dinosaur!
Rowan
Ralph continues to work tirelessly on his Triple Science, and the Rest of Rowan are continuing with their new topic: chemical change. I think it’s fair to say they have been bombarded with word and symbol equations and the dreaded balancing of equations! All students are working extremely hard despite the current circumstances, and always keen to learn!
LOTC
On Monday and Tuesday we spent some time on the front fields - we cleared grass around the saplings. We had a small fire in the new fire pit that was finished last week. We also used some tools and whittled some sticks. Olivia had a go at starting a fire on Tuesday. As part of their pathway, we are improving the front fields area. Over time we plan to clear some more areas and put up a shelter, so it is another area that can be used for LOTC.
Kyle and Jonnie receiving the Silver DofE Award, the first presented in Springfield’s for many a year, and Jonnie being the only year 10 to achieve it!
In Jonnies garden handing over the certificates.
Below, Adam receiving his from Mrs Berrett and big smiles all round..
James and Mr Hurles, reminiscing over past expeditions as he receives his Silver…
Leo getting his certificates for Silver DofE, we hope he gets to do the expedition
Mrs Berrett and Mr Hurles spent a day visiting the year 11 Pathways students to deliver the certificates for LOtC . The students, James, Kyle, Leo and Jonnie received their Silver Duke of Edinburgh certificate, the first ones the LOtC team have been proudly able to present! They also received a certificate for St Johns, First Aid, and an extremely important life skill.
As a team, Mrs Berrett and I are incredibly proud to be of on the journey with these students to gain this award. There were many tough times for the students, with the accumulation of the hard work involved ending in an expedition to Pen y Fan and going up mountains! My fond memories from that exped were, the raging ice cold winds, mending Jonnies boot with gaffer tape in winds, in the group shelter at the summit for food. It was an amazing trip!
The students have all worked so hard to gain the awards, and very justly deserved to all the students. We are so very proud of all the students, the first Silver DofE awards in Springfield’s!!!!
Well done to you all. From Mr Hurles and Mrs Berrett.
Another brilliant week in English both in school and at home. Ralph has written a brilliant story from an image stimulus and Raife has produced this Shakespeare themed Valentine’s Day card.
Sophie continues to work hard both in school and at home and always comes in with reams of work she has completed at home.
Grace has contributed well to class discussions this week and has been helping other pupils with their work
Goodbye Year 11
Our year 11s had their last day on Friday and unfortunately, due to the circumstances, we haven’t been able to say goodbye in person, we hope to see them before they head of on their chosen pathways. Congratulations for making it to the end of year 11, it has been a pleasure to teach you, watch you grow and become the young adults you now are. We will all miss you greatly, but we know that you are going on to do great things
