Generous scholarship - Part of the event involved the presentation of a further $500,000 to Penhold Crossing student scholarships. Stewart and Eileen Ford (front) had already provided this amount when Penhold Crossing Secondary School first opened, and their further donation brings the Ford Family Scholarship to $1 million. Accepting the cheque in trust is Kristine Bugayong from the Red Deer & District Community Foundation. Back row: Penhold Crossing Principal Mark Crawford, scholarship recipient Jenna Dudar, Superintendent Kurt Sacher, Board Chair Colleen Butler, Her Honour Lois Mitchell, and Trustee Sherry Cooper. Students come first - Jenna Dudar was congratulated by Chair Colleen Butler and Her Honour Lois Mitchell. Jenna received a $5,000 Ford Family scholarship towards her tuition to Mount Royal University’s Bachelor of Business Administration program. Meanwhile, Stewart Ford was interviewed by the many media who were at the event. High Fives - It was quickly apparent that The Honourable Lois Mitchell was a teacher before her path led to the highest office in the province. Students were treated to a spirited visit with Her Honour, whose highly memorable personality provided memories sure to last a lifetime. For those who heard her mention the poetry contest for Grades 4 - 6 with such enthusiasm, more information is available by sending an email to the Office of the Lieutenant Governor at [email protected].
