Cedarcrest High School opened its doors in 1993 and was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School shortly after. The recognition was because of the innovative and responsive programs put in place at the time. We are proud of our past, but also proud of the fact that we have evolved as a school since 1993 and will continue to evolve to meet the needs of our students into the future. At Cedarcrest, we serve over 900 students in grades 9 through 12 as a comprehensive high school with offerings from career and technology education to college preparation. Over 80% of our students go on to college after graduation. However, we pride ourselves on making sure that all students have a plan for their future, whether they are career bound or college bound. Since our inception, we have added over 18 honors and advanced placement (AP) courses to our schedule. Our school and students have been recognized for six years in a row by the Advanced Placement Institute, named as a member of the AP Honor Rollfor success in AP exams, improvement in programs, and accessibility for students. Balance in a students life is very important to us. As a member of the Cascade Conference, students have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of interscholastic sports. We are also proud to afford our students the opportunity to participate in over 30 activities and clubs, offering many leadership opportunities for students. Our band and performing arts programs have grown into one of the premier programs in Washington, annually receiving state and regional awards and recognition in marching band, concert band, jazz band, and choir competitions. Finally, and most importantly, at Cedarcrest we believe that developing positive relationships with our students is the best way to motivate students to perform to their best ability. Our teaching staff is selected based not only on their content area knowledge, but also because we believe they know how to develop positive relationships that work with students. We will always be a school that sees positive relationships: student to teacher, student to student, and staff member to staff member as the most important aspects of a healthy, innovative and growth-minded school environment. Once again, welcome to Cedarcrest High School! We are glad you are a part of our community! Sincerely, Ray LaBate Principal Riverview School District 15510 - 1st Ave. NE/P.O. School Safety Cedarcrest Administration, which includes the principal, assistant principal, and a dean-of-students, monitors the campus before, during, and after school. Teachers monitor the halls during breaks and passing time. The halls and outside of the building are equipped with video cameras to ensure students’ safety and protect property. Student discipline is addressed progressively, unless the violation is considered exceptional misconduct. There is zero tolerance for harassment and bullying. Should a student be a victim or if a student engages in bullying or harassing behaviors, the situation will be addressed promptly and in accordance with the district’s Bullying and Harassment Policy by the school administration. In conjunction with the Duvall Police Department, Cedarcrest High School has a School Resource Officer (SRO) on campus for four (4) hours daily. The SRO is available to help with student supervision, as well as being available to help students with any questions or concerns.

In school year 2016-17, it is projected to cost the Riverview School District $191.69 to educate each student for one day.

Sports

PTSA The PTSA is an integral part of Cedarcrest High School. Besides fundraising, the PTSA provides financial grants for teachers and coaches to implement classroom and extracurricular activities that otherwise would not be possible. PTSA also provides scholarships for graduating seniors. The PTSA operates the school store with 100% of store profits going back to students in the form of teacher grants and student scholarships. The school store is always in need of parent volunteers to help with this endeavor. Besides the school store, the PTSA also runs the athletic food concessions. The concessions are manned by various student groups who share directly in the profits from these concessions. Last year, the PTSA donated approximately $15,000 directly back to the school.

Music

Cedarcrest builds dedicated, educated musicians who challenge themselves and each other in positive ways. Cedarcrest music classes are safe places where students have fun while creating music of high quality. Musical ensembles include Jazz Band, Pep/Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Choir, Chamber Choir, and Concert Choir and Color Guard. Cedarcrest also offers a guitar class and history of music for non-performing music students.

Cedarcrest Music Department participates in fundraising opportunities and community events including parades, field shows, concerts, regional jazz festivals, and an annual Battle of the Bands. Since 1997, CHS Music has hosted Australian exchange students as a fundraiser and community outreach program.

RPAB (Riverview Performing Arts Boosters) is a community-based organization dedicated to supporting Riverview student musicians. Our parent support organization assists in all levels of music education—from helping rent instruments, to repairing and purchasing much needed instruments and services. This highly-effective parent group writes grants, builds moral, and coordinates spectacular events like Battle of the Bands, Band Clinic, and spring tours across our beautiful state and nation.

CHS bands and choirs are always participating in local festivals and events. We are proud to attend yearly invitationals like the Auburn Veterans’ Day Marching Band Competition, the Edmonds Jazz Festival, and Heritage Festivals throughout the west coast.

Graduation and Dropout rates

Graduation Rate: Cedarcrest has the second highest graduation rate on the Eastside. Of those students who were enrolled at Cedarcrest, as of June 2012, more than 98% have graduated with their class on time. Dropout rate < 2%: The dropout rate consists of those students who have voluntarily left school after meeting state provisions for non-attendance and also, for those whose education status is unknown to the school district.

Technology

Technology is a major focus at Cedarcrest High School with district technology standards integrated into the curriculum. Cedarcrest has two fully-equipped graphics arts and CAD labs.

Beginning in the 2016-17 school year, all students in math, science, and language arts will have 1:1 laptop access in those classes.

Students regularly use three computer labs for research and the completion of assignments.

The 2014 Technology Levy provided LCD projectors, speakers, display carts with document cameras, and laptops for every classroom.

Parents have the ability to monitor/access their student’s progress through the use of online grades.

All parents are given an access code which allows them to view their child’s current grade, and gives them direct e-mail access to the teacher/counselor should there be questions or a need to arrange for conferences.
