Siemens is a global powerhouse focusing on the areas of electrification,
automation and digitalisation, that has stood for engineering excellence,
innovation, quality, reliability and internationality for more than 165 years. One of
the world’s largest producers of energy-efficient, resource-saving technologies,
Siemens is a leading supplier of systems for power generation and transmission
as well as medical diagnosis. In infrastructure and industry solutions the
company plays a pioneering role. As of 30 September 2015, we had around
348,000 employees in more than 200 countries. In fiscal 2015, we generated
revenues of €75.6 billion.
Siemens has been in Australia and New Zealand for 143 years and now employs
about 2,000 people. Our technology can be found behind the scenes supporting
critical infrastructure, and almost every industry. The company’s fingerprint can
be found supporting everything from generating efficient and clean energy
through to advanced medical imaging and diagnostics equipment. You will find
Siemens automation, electrification and digitalisation technology in everything
from the lane change controls on the Sydney Harbour Bridge, through to energy
efficiency at the MCG and even hi-tech simulation used to help protect the Great
Barrier Reef. Significant industries ranging from oil and gas to mining, roads and
rail, food and beverage, manufacturing, buildings and construction,
pharmaceuticals, water and energy utilities and even the latest wind farms being
built in South Australia all rely on Siemens technologies.
Siemens has a number of MoUs signed with stakeholders including Engineers
Australia, Simulation Australasia and the South Australian Government; as well
as an MoU with Defence Science and Technology Group and Queensland
University of Technology to advance High Temperature Superconductors.
Siemens has contributed over $AU5 million of technology and software in
support of these MoUs. Other recent investments include new Service Centres
built in Rockhampton, Perth Airport, and Tonsley Technology Precinct in South
Australia.
With a global view on the trends and changes affecting the world now and in the
future, Siemens actively supports local industry, governments and stakeholders
to understand and prepare for key changes such as the fourth industrial
revolution (Industry 4.0), the transition to intelligent infrastructure and the
transition to a sustainable energy future.

vote of thanks Jeff Connolly Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Siemens
Twitter: @JeffRConnolly
Jeff Connolly is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Siemens in the Australia
Pacific region.
Siemens has been active in Australia since 1872, has a turnover of > A$2 billion
and employs over 2,200 people. A technology-agnostic company, Siemens is
one of the world’s largest pro-ducers of energy-efficient and resource-saving
technologies. They’re a leading supplier of sys-tems for power generation and
transmission and a pioneer in smart infrastructure solutions – from wind farms
to LNG, coal fired power stations, microgrids and distributed energy systems
and even ‘green’ hydrogen production. One interesting statistic is that about 30
per cent of Aus-tralia’s capacity to generate electricity is enabled by Siemens
technology.
In addition to leading Siemens in the region, Jeff Connolly is instrumental in areas
such as the Germany-Australia relationship, Industry 4.0, the future of energy
and smart infrastructure as seen by his various other roles including President of
Ai Group Victoria Council; Chairman of the German-Australian Chamber of
Industry and Commerce; Director of the European Australian Business Council;
Founding member of the Australian Advanced Manufacturing Council and former
Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Industry 4.0 Taskforce.

about CEDA’s national and research program Research – Economic and Political Overview (EPO) 2020 February 2020
CEDA's Economic and Political Overview is Australia's premier publication and series of events held in Australia's capital cities and major regional centres, focusing on the Australian economy and politics for the year ahead.
Running for more than 30 years, the EPO brings together political, economic and business leaders and provides CEDA members with business intelligence on the environment they will be operating in over the next 12 months.
The 2020 EPO aims to deliver political and economic business intelligence for a wide audience. The proposed content of EPO 2020 will examine the economic and political outlook, as well as domestic and international policy developments in the year ahead and the key issues likely to shape economic and political outcomes. The publication will be released on 12 February 2020 in Sydney.
Forum - Public Interest Technology forum May 2020, Adelaide
Technology provides the greatest economic opportunity of our time. Technologies are societies, business models and processes at speed. Policymakers, regulators and regulations are struggling to keep up and there is community concern about managing the consequences and opportunities of new technologies well. We need forward-looking, proactive and agile approaches to the regulation of emerging technologies to enable the adoption of technologies for the public good. This forum deliberately draws from and builds on agendas being pursued in the US and UK that are addressing responsible innovation; tech policy; the governance of new technologies within and across borders; the role of technology in driving better public policy, programs and service delivery; and building skills in the public and technology sectors in support of advancing public purpose.
Community Pulse 2020
June 2020 Institutions | Critical services
Community Pulse 2020 will build on the 2018 survey providing an opportunity to analyse trends over time and how that correlates to economic and policy settings during the past two years.
National conference – State of the Nation 2018 15-16 June 2020, Canberra
Described in the media as "Australia's premier policymaker conference", State of the Nation is the country’s leading public policy discussion forum, bringing together decision makers and leaders from government, business and industry for an intensive, day-and-a-half of presentations and discussions on Australia's future prosperity.
Disrupting disadvantage
November 2020
This will be the second in the disrupting disadvantage series of report following the release of Disrupting disadvantage: setting the scene released in November 2019.
Two further reports are currently being finalised for 2020 which will touch on technology and data and migration.
