CEA started in 1996 with one simple philosophy: to pro-
vide quality study abroad education for college students
with service at the core of the organization. Since then,
our vision of innovation and creative global education
solutions has lead to unprecedented growth. At CEA we
always look for better ways to serve the interests of our
students and partners.
Mission Statement
To create and facilitate opportunities for personal growth
and global understanding through quality international
education and cultural experiences.
Cities of Operation
A Model of Growth & Innovation
Since its inception in 1996, CEA has steadily built a foun-
dation for excellence and growth – an investment that has
paid off. Through a commitment to the development of
quality programs, individualized service, and use of inno-
vative technology, our enrollment has increased 3500%
between 1996 and 2007.
Academic Diversity
Taking the best of many educational models, CEA has cre-
ated the CEA GlobalCampus Network, combining aca-
demic excellence, inter-cultural competency, immersion
and international connection. In addition, we are constant-
ly expanding our network of International Partner Institu-
tions to provide students with a local educational experi-
ence. Within the CEA GlobalCampus Network, Academic
Deans and dedicated faculty members are selected based
on their like-minded philosophy of international education,
shared strategic vision, and solid foundation of academic
quality and experience. We at CEA are committed to creat-
ing intellectually stimulating programs and active learning
environments through all of our programming initiatives.
We promote experiential learning, global citizenship, and
the pursuit of life-long learning to help students achieve
their academic, personal and professional goals.
Exemplary Service
CEA was founded on the principle of providing quality
service to students and parents through the entire inter-
national education process, from pre-departure planning
through the return home and beyond. Our regionally fo-
cused University Relations team provides the same level of
service to US faculty and advisors through campus visits,
promotional events for students, and instructional oppor-
tunities for staff and faculty. Every CEA program is evalu-
ated to ensure that we are not only meeting, but exceeding
student expectations. Program components such as advis-
ing, orientation, staff, academic quality, and excursions
are evaluated by pre-departure and re-entry surveys. Our
web-based evaluation system was designed exclusively for
CEA and enables us to continually monitor the quality of
our services and programs.
A History of Innovation
CEA was the first in the field to adopt a comprehensive
internet strategy utilizing web-based student information,
an online application, a live chat feature, podcasting, ac-
cess to dynamic online pre-departure literature and direct
toll-free access to headquarters staff. In addition, each CEA
GlobalCampus facility features modern, fully equipped
classrooms, computer labs, study rooms and library ser-
vices, complete with technology designed to complement
the students’ learning experiences. Our state-of-the-art,
web-based enrollment process gives students access to
their program information 24 hours a day, allowing them to
update their personal information, access data about their
program and submit academic choices and housing pref-
erences online. We have built a digital infrastructure that
allows CEA staff around the world to access this student
information electronically. This helps to facilitate faster and
more efficient communication not only between our head-
quarter office and international staff, but also between the
international staff and our partner institutions, thereby
increasing our ability to provide unparalleled quality cus-
tomer service.
Proven Outcomes
The positive experiences and learning outcomes of stu-
dents are of paramount importance to CEA. Tracking and
measuring student evaluation results enables us to provide
superior quality assurance. CEA students fill out a program
evaluation upon re-entry after their study abroad experi-
ence. This data is analyzed and used to improve the quality
of future service and study abroad programs. We receive
overwhelmingly positive evaluations every year.

The CEA GlobalCampus NetworkWelcome to a new approach to study abroad
The CEA GlobalCampus Network represents an in-novative contribution to international education. Developed to provide high-performance, borderless
education solutions, the CEA GlobalCampus academic programs specialize in global competency and intercul-tural learning. Our academic model is delivered through a network of state-of-the-art learning centers, located in the heart of some of the world’s most renowned destina-tions. The experiential and engaging curriculum fosters the development of a rich intercultural understanding.
Using the best of many models, the CEA GlobalCampus
Network helps universities and colleges to take interna-
tional education to new levels of academic excellence, in-
tercultural competency and international connection.
Signature attributes of the CEA GlobalCampus include:
Active learning •
Development of intercultural competencies •
Globally-focused coursework•
Highly qualified academic staff•
Flexibility•
Development of professional skills•
This unique network has been designed to provide a stra-
tegic asset to the US institutions with which CEA partners
in the provision of study abroad and borderless education
and to equip students with the tools necessary to address
the realities of a global future. The CEA GlobalCampus
Network addresses the critical needs of globalization,
where multicultural competence transcends monocul-
tural immersion, language courses stress cross-cultural
understanding, instruction is technologically based and
geared to the realities of today’s student, and global stud-
ies courses address the pressing issues of today, not only
the histories of specific locations. The CEA GlobalCampus
Network represents a true partnership between CEA, our
University of Record (the University of New Haven), the
international institutions of higher education with which
CEA partners, and CEA’s US affiliated partners.

Bringing the World into FocusCurriculum aimed at personal and professional development
Extending Your ReachOffering colleges and universities programs to respond to students’ unique needs
CEA conducted the “Study Abroad National Challenge Survey” in 2007. This study was de-signed to uncover the field’s preparedness for
the dramatic increase in US students studying abroad within the next ten years as called for by the Lincoln Commission and the Paul Simon Study Abroad Founda-tion Act. We learned that there was an obvious need for greater partnerships with study abroad providers, thus widening student access and diversifying the study abroad program portfolio on every campus.
The CEA GlobalCampus Network caters to the strategic
need of US universities and colleges to internationalize
their campuses by increasing their students’ access to study
abroad programs, offering the flexibility to better serve
underrepresented disciplines in the international setting,
creating outreach programs for non-traditional students to
study abroad, and providing additional program manage-
ment options to the traditional faculty-led program model.
Each site is designed for teaching 200-500 students. The
hallmarks of a CEA GlobalCampus include:
Curriculum design, development and delivery•Facilities design and utilization•Consistent technology design and deployment •Rigorous academic policies, controls and support •Comprehensive health and safety protocols•Legal and risk management expertise•Learning and outcomes assessment•Student life, housing and academic • resources
At the heart of the CEA GlobalCampus Network is a strong dedication to academic integrity, complemented by a commitment to innovation. The professionally focused curriculum is centered on gaining intercultural
competency in the context of each course. Students acquire skills and perspec-tives that will aid them in navigating the modern world.
The innovative and learner-centered curriculum engages students in dynamic activities that bring relevance to their educational, personal and professional pursuits, and equips them with the tools they will need to address global is-sues. Learning transcends the classroom as lessons are presented through the framework of active learning. Students are engaged in activities that leverage the host city’s culture, commerce and media as the landscape for delivering the academics through:
Field study •In-class debate and discussion •Development research •Classroom portfolio presentations•
Company excursions •Guest lectures•
Team-based projects •

University of Record PartnershipAssuring academic quality through vigilance and accountability
CEA and the University of New Haven (UNH) have
partnered to promote a comprehensive academic
agreement through which UNH acts as the Uni-
versity of Record, which holds the accreditation and en-
sures academics comply with accreditation standards for
all CEA GlobalCampus programs.
The University of New Haven, founded in 1920, is a pri-
vate, comprehensive university located in West Haven,
Connecticut. UNH’s mission is to prepare career-ready
graduates for meaningful roles in today’s global economy
and to nurture the pursuit of life-long learning. The univer-
sity offers more than 80 undergraduate degree programs
and more than 25 graduate degree programs, including in-
novative fields such as sports management, nutrition and
dietetics, forensic science, music and sound recording,
engineering, computer science, fire science and criminal
justice. UNH has a full-time undergraduate enrollment of
more than 3,200 students and a Graduate School enroll-
ment exceeding 1,800 day and evening graduate students.
The agreement between UNH and CEA follows the high-
est standards of good practice in education abroad and
satisfies the rigorous requirements of the University’s in-
Rethinking Study AbroadCharting a new course with responsive programming
We at CEA recognize the importance of study-
ing abroad as a key element in a student’s
education. We are concerned that less than
three percent of students actually study abroad, accord-
ing to the US Department of Education. Many programs
are short term, faculty led, or “island” programs for North
American students. The current trends of universities,
professional organizations and government agencies sug-
gest that significantly more students should study abroad.
As part of our commitment to continuous improvement
to meet these demands, we are engaged in an ongoing
process of rethinking study abroad. This process examines
all aspects of study abroad, including learning outcomes,
the curriculum, the student body, cultural immersion and
the administration of our programs. Our goal is to offer
programming that is responsive to our students and part-
ners, and that is learner-centered, cross-disciplinary, inter-
cultural and flexible. In the future, we look forward to an
expanded breadth of CEA GlobalCampus programming
options including internships, service learning and an hon-
ors program.
The CEA GlobalCampus Network sites are envisioned
to be centers of life-long learning, wherein many types
of programs and constituents will be served. The under-
graduate programs will, in the future, host a student body
consisting of North American study abroad students, host
country students from our partner universities and interna-
tional students who wish to study abroad for up to a year.
In addition, these centers are poised to continue serving
these same undergraduates throughout the course of their
lives, as well as new seekers of international opportuni-
ties through executive education programs, distance learn-
ing courses and continuing education programs for adult
learners.

stitutional accreditor, The Commission on Higher Educa-
tion of the New England Association for Schools and Col-
leges (CIHE/NEASC). The agreement follows the widely
accepted statement by institutional accreditors on “Policy
on Contractual Arrangements Involving Courses and Pro-
grams”, which can be accessed through the CEA web site at
www.GoWithCEA.com/UNH. The Commission fully en-
dorses the agreement, stating that they appreciate “the
care with which the University approached the contrac-
tual relationship, the identification of external expertise to
help with the development of this initiative, and the best
practices being implemented in the program.”
After submitting the contract to a full review at a Novem-
ber 2006 meeting, the CIHE/NEASC Board assured that
the agreement met or exceeded all requirements.
Under this agreement, UNH assumes responsibility to set
and monitor all academic standards from the approval of
courses to the appointment of faculty. UNH also involves
its faculty according to its own internal processes in all
academic aspects, including regular site reviews by fac-
ulty. The inaugural site review took place in June of 2008,
and in the Fall of 2008, NEASC announced that CEA’s pro-
grams passed the full review.
UNH faculty review all courses taught through the CEA
GlobalCampus Network. Each course syllabus is evaluated
by a Curriculum Review Committee, comprised of regu-
lar UNH faculty, for appropriate contact time, depth and
breadth, forms of assessment, texts, and materials prior to
approval. UNH approved syllabi are available for review
on the CEA web site. The same committee reviews faculty
appointments, as well as the appointments of Academic
Affairs staff, the biographies of whom are also available for
review on the CEA web site.
Academic decisions made in the field are in accordance
with pre-established criteria set by UNH.
As the CEA University of Record, UNH requires that inter-
nal academic controls within CEA be administered by aca-
demics whose qualifications approximate those of compa-
rable academic administrators on the home campus and
are consistent with the requirements of overseas partner
universities.
Students studying at the CEA GlobalCampus have access
to online library resources at the University of New Ha-
ven. Access to these online resources is an integral part of
research and learning as articulated through each course
syllabus. The online access to UNH’s library, combined
with the print and media resources available to students at
each CEA GlobalCampus, provide a wealth of resources
that meet and exceed the requirements of UNH’s Regional
Accreditor, NEASC.
UNH faculty actively teaching at various network sites
through the establishment of a semester-in-residence pro-
gram that will rotate across sites.

CEA Custom ProgramsTransforming how faculty and students approach study abroad
As more university and college presidents, govern-
ing boards and international professional organi-
zations recognize the importance of globalizing
higher education, CEA recognizes the importance of offer-
ing a diverse portfolio of programs to compliment our part-
ner institutions in serving more students and globalizing
the faculty. The CEA GlobalCampus Network furnishes the
resources necessary to assist study abroad advisors, ad-
ministrators and faculty in developing custom programs in
a variety of locations and academic disciplines. Partnering
with CEA in the development of a custom program assures
high quality academic programming, access to resources
not readily available to individual faculty members and
program oversight by an experienced team of academic
and study abroad professionals.
CEA understands the tremendous work involved in setting
up and operating a successful academic program in an in-
ternational setting. The process of creating and designing
a program, from making local connections and ensuring
students’ safety to providing a strong academic focus, is
a challenging and labor intensive task that can be over-
whelming. CEA has long recognized the need to alleviate
this burden on faculty by providing custom program solu-
tions. The CEA GlobalCampus Network is simply the next
step in the evolution of custom programs at CEA.
Custom program options at CEA are designed to be easily
tailored to meet diverse academic needs of departments
and faculty at US institutions. Programs can either be built
on existing CEA programs, thus allowing the use of CEA
infrastructure, or can be built from scratch allowing the
ultimate flexibility within CEA’s destinations.

The University of Arizona (UA)
In response to the increasing student demand for interna-
tional coursework within the University of Arizona’s Eller
School of Management, CEA, in collaboration with UNH
and UA, created a unique course titled “Politics and Lead-
ership in the Classical World”. This specialized curriculum
is being delivered at the CEA GlobalCampus in Rome by
CEA faculty. The program calendar was custom built in or-
der to complement UA’s term schedule and students have
full access to standard CEA value package amenities in-
cluding organized housing, onsite staff services and orien-
tation. Relevant excursions are integrated into the course-
work to bring the active learning trademark of the CEA
GlobalCampus to life. This custom course is transcripted
by UNH.
Ohio Dominican University (ODU)
Ohio Dominican University partnered with CEA to create
a custom program in Rome that provides onsite infrastruc-
ture and support. Students can take courses taught by an
ODU professor and also have access to CEA curriculum
including Italian Language & Culture, Business, Political
Science and History. The signature study abroad active
learning elements are infused into all CEA Rome curricu-
lum and ODU students are fully integrated with other CEA
students for their housing, social and immersion activities.
This program is dual transcripted by ODU and UNH.

Active Learning ExamplesCourses that set CEA GlobalCampus programs apart from the rest
PARISGay Paris: Culture, Society & Urban Sexual Identity
Throughout the semester, students participate in the building of the intellectual superstructure of the
course by creating and utilizing a physical map of Paris. The “Gay Paris Map” that the students concep-
tualize and physically construct over the course of the semester relies on interaction with members of
the local community who share experiences and ideas relative to the city’s LGBT identity and histori-
cal evolution. This combined with the students’ own input creates a physical tool for pinpointing and
reflecting gay and lesbian urban spaces as well as community centers and locales in the contemporary
city space. As part of this face-to-face interaction with the local community, dialogues with people
such as the Miss Gentry Lane or the vice president of the local Act UP chapter take place in-class,
affording students an opportunity to meet the next generation responsible for building upon the foun-
dations of Gay Paris.
FLORENCERenaissance Apprentice
Designed for the beginner as well as the experienced, this course lets students re-live the training and
exercises of the Renaissance artist’s workshop. Students learn the practical techniques of drawing,
panel painting and fresco painting, often studying onsite directly from the great artworks in museums
and galleries. They take part in lectures, readings, and discussions. Students apply their visual and
manual skills to produce several painted works during the course. The course ends with the collabora-
tive production of a show and a ‘book of the show’.
ROMEArt and Archaeology of Ancient Rome
Students gain a solid appreciation of the ancient city of Rome through personal contact – through a
series of roaming, onsite classes at archaeological sites and museums in Rome (including the Colos-
seum and the Forum) and Ostia Antica, the ancient port of Rome. An exciting component of this class
is a 2-day field trip to the Bay of Naples where we will visit Pompeii and the National Archaeological
Museum in Naples. Students keep a regular journal of their personal observations and impressions,
make on-site oral presentations to demonstrate their understanding of these sites, and stage multi-
media classroom collaborative discussions to explore broader related research themes.
In collaboration with UNH, CEA has developed an active learning curriculum as a core principle of the CEA
GlobalCampus Network. Through deep and meaningful interaction with their surroundings, students are able to learn
information in a manner that increases their understanding, retention, and enthusiasm for the topics and themes associ-
ated with their academic courses. The following is just a short sample of how coursework at the CEA GlobalCampus
Network brings the concept of active learning to life.

MADRIDCurrent Global Threats: Different Approaches to Terrorism
Students gain unique perspectives on the terrorist challenges facing Spain from both Basque separat-
ists and Islamic extremists by assessing trends in terrorist group strategies, tactics and targets, and
examining counter-terrorist measures taken to suppress these groups. Students analyze historical and
contemporary terrorism on both the national and international level through examining case studies,
giving them a better understanding of terrorism as an ongoing national security issue.
SEVILLECultural Values & Stereotypes: A Comparative Analysis between Spain and the US
The international setting for this course offers an ideal environment for developing intercultural com-
petency and interpersonal/cultural communication between people of diverse cultures. Through a se-
ries of group activities, observation and interaction with the local culture and guest speakers, students
develop the tools necessary to gain a full understanding of cultural identity, patterns, attitudes, values
and nonverbal behaviors. Through personal and group observation and interaction with the local cul-
ture, students apply these same tools to further their understanding of both the local culture and that
of students of other nationalities living in Seville.
BARCELONAInternational Marketing
Students visit the APM Barcelona Headquarters (Marketing Professionals Association) where they en-
gage in an interactive interview with one of the association’s top executives. After the visit, students
write a two-page report and share it with their classmates. This association includes companies such as
Microsoft, Honda, Nestle, and Danone. With over 1000 members, and 120 collaborating companies,
APM is the most prestigious marketing association in Spain.

they made 6, rue de Braque (the CEA GlobalCampus) feel
like a second home! Whether for class or French tutoring
or an activity or just to say hi, I always looked forward to
going there!! My CEA GlobalCampus class about Impres-
sionism was a once in a lifetime opportunity. I had never
taken an art history class before, but I loved Impression-
ism, and what better way to be introduced to the art his-
tory world than by having classes IN the Louvre, d’Orsay,
l’Orangerie, etc. etc.!”

“The British Institute of Florence in association with CEA
hosted Dr. Carlo Pedretti, Armand Hammer professor of
Leonardo Studies and Director of the Hammer Center for
Leonardo Studies at UCLA at The British Institute. What
makes this sort of analysis so valuable to art history students
such as me is that it reminds us that there is always more to
see, more to link… In plain but eloquent language Pedretti
showed me how to write a cohesive, creative, and interest-

scholars such as Pedretti reminds students to appreciate
the simple things in art, and particularly in life.”

“Come with an opened mind and be prepared to roll with
the punches. The lifestyle in Italy is a 180 degree change
from that in America... some of it may come as a shock,
while other aspects of it will allow for an easy transition. By
the end of your study abroad experience, expect to have
an entirely new understanding and appreciation for your
host country, its culture, and for yourself. CEA provides
everything you could ever want, need, and hope for during
your study abroad. This program offers incredible opportu-

CEA started in 1996 with one simple philosophy: to pro-
vide quality study abroad education for college students
with service at the core of the organization. Since then,
our vision of innovation and creative global education
solutions has lead to unprecedented growth. At CEA we
always look for better ways to serve the interests of our
students and partners.
Mission Statement
To create and facilitate opportunities for personal growth
and global understanding through quality international
education and cultural experiences.
Cities of Operation
A Model of Growth & Innovation
Since its inception in 1996, CEA has steadily built a foun-
dation for excellence and growth – an investment that has
paid off. Through a commitment to the development of
quality programs, individualized service, and use of inno-
vative technology, our enrollment has increased 3500%
between 1996 and 2007.
Academic Diversity
Taking the best of many educational models, CEA has cre-
ated the CEA GlobalCampus Network, combining aca-
demic excellence, inter-cultural competency, immersion
and international connection. In addition, we are constant-
ly expanding our network of International Partner Institu-
tions to provide students with a local educational experi-
ence. Within the CEA GlobalCampus Network, Academic
Deans and dedicated faculty members are selected based
on their like-minded philosophy of international education,
shared strategic vision, and solid foundation of academic
quality and experience. We at CEA are committed to creat-
ing intellectually stimulating programs and active learning
environments through all of our programming initiatives.
We promote experiential learning, global citizenship, and
the pursuit of life-long learning to help students achieve
their academic, personal and professional goals.
Exemplary Service
CEA was founded on the principle of providing quality
service to students and parents through the entire inter-
national education process, from pre-departure planning
through the return home and beyond. Our regionally fo-
cused University Relations team provides the same level of
service to US faculty and advisors through campus visits,
promotional events for students, and instructional oppor-
tunities for staff and faculty. Every CEA program is evalu-
ated to ensure that we are not only meeting, but exceeding
student expectations. Program components such as advis-
ing, orientation, staff, academic quality, and excursions
are evaluated by pre-departure and re-entry surveys. Our
web-based evaluation system was designed exclusively for
CEA and enables us to continually monitor the quality of
our services and programs.
A History of Innovation
CEA was the first in the field to adopt a comprehensive
internet strategy utilizing web-based student information,
an online application, a live chat feature, podcasting, ac-
cess to dynamic online pre-departure literature and direct
toll-free access to headquarters staff. In addition, each CEA
GlobalCampus facility features modern, fully equipped
classrooms, computer labs, study rooms and library ser-
vices, complete with technology designed to complement
the students’ learning experiences. Our state-of-the-art,
web-based enrollment process gives students access to
their program information 24 hours a day, allowing them to
update their personal information, access data about their
program and submit academic choices and housing pref-
erences online. We have built a digital infrastructure that
allows CEA staff around the world to access this student
information electronically. This helps to facilitate faster and
more efficient communication not only between our head-
quarter office and international staff, but also between the
international staff and our partner institutions, thereby
increasing our ability to provide unparalleled quality cus-
tomer service.
Proven Outcomes
The positive experiences and learning outcomes of stu-
dents are of paramount importance to CEA. Tracking and
measuring student evaluation results enables us to provide
superior quality assurance. CEA students fill out a program
evaluation upon re-entry after their study abroad experi-
ence. This data is analyzed and used to improve the quality
of future service and study abroad programs. We receive
overwhelmingly positive evaluations every year.
