Welcome!

We’ve been waiting for you! Our mission at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church is to proclaim Christ’s Abundant Love. We are called to reach out to persons of all ages and life situations with Christ’s own hospitality and acceptance, to invite you to be our companion on the spiritual journey as we discover together the ways that Christ is offering hope, healing, and a renewed sense of meaning for our lives.

If you are not a member, we would love to talk to you about our ministry. We invite you to talk to one of our pastors or stop at the Welcome Center near the church entrance.

May your worship experience here at St. Mark’s draw you closer to Christ and His Abundant Love!

Today’s WORSHIP FOCUS

What we Experience

The life of Jesus reminds us that physical bodies, and what we do with them, matter to God. The writer of Ephesians exhorts community members to follow their sense of calling, not for personal fulfillment, but for the sake of unity in Christ. As they each follow God’s call, they will come together to achieve God’s vision of unity. All of today’s readings give insight into individual feelings and responses to events in our lives, yet, as we do that, we are ever mindful that our own actions have an effect on the greater community

Next Week’s WORSHIP FOCUS

What we Claim

Loving like Jesus is hard. Many of us struggle to live in ways that are worthy of God’s call. Next week’s readings show that living faithfully is complicated because we live in a broken world. In particular, anger can both cause people to sin and be harnessed for justice. Even

in times of anger, we are called to live in sacrificial love.

Nursing the Spirit: The Health Benefits of Napping An afternoon snooze may be just what the doctor ordered. Emerging research suggests that napping may improve your health and increase worker productivity. In fact, some companies have dedicated napping rooms where employees can catch a few zzzs. If you have a hard time getting enough sleep at night, a nap can help. Napping helps improve mood, thinking, concentration, and overall health, according to research published in the Journal of Sleep Research. Studies also show that taking a regular siesta lowers the risk of heart attacks, boosts the immune system, and lowers blood pressure in some individuals. Follow these guidelines to tap into the health benefits of napping:

1. When to nap and for how long. Keep it short, an ideal nap is 20 to 30 minutes. For most people, a short nap of this duration helps improve mood, increase alertness, and enhance productivity. Even a 10-minute nap can be enough to help you mentally and physically.

2. Avoid late-afternoon naps. If you plan to take a nap, avoid catching those zzzs late in the afternoon. Research shows that napping too late in the day can interfere with going to sleep at night.

3. Create an ideal napping environment. You'll fall asleep faster and get more out of a nap by creating a restful environment. For best results, nap in a darkened room where it's quiet and the room temperature feels comfortable to you. Napping at the same time of day on a regular basis can help too.

4. If napping doesn't seem to help make up for lack of sleep at night, talk with a doctor. Sleep problems can be a sign of underlying health issues. See a doctor if you have sleep problems including difficulty sleeping during the nighttime or excessive daytime sleepiness.
