Brief description of the CD-Pre Treatment system
The Marinfloc CD-Pre Treatment system is an emulsion breaking unit to install in front of the Oily Water Separator
to break the emulsions these systems have so much difficulties in treating. It is a fully automatic system based on
the emulsion breaking technlogy of flocculation and dissolved air flotation directly derived from the patented Ma-
rinfloc Oily Water Separator CD model.
The CD-Pre Treatment feeds the Oily Water Separator (OWS) clean water so it can discharge <15 PPM. This is nor-
mally not possible as the vast majority of OWS-systems can not treat emulsions or relies on filtering which imposes
tremendous operational costs and sadly often leads to willful manipulation by the crew.
Flocculation and Flotation.
As on almost all land based waste water treatment systems the CD-Pre Treatment unit utilizes flocculation to re-
move emulsified oil, chemicals, particles, dirt etc. that remains in the water after the free oil has been removed.
The flocculation, which is the heart of the process, is achieved by means of chemicals to break the emulsions and to
make all other contaminants come out of suspension and form so called flocks. The system use two types of chemi-
cals for this purpose, a Coagulant and a Flocbooster. The dosage is normally 0,3-0,4 litre/ton bilge water.
The flocks are separated from the water by means of forced flotation in the flocculation tank and are removed in
the top section of the flocculation tank by the drain pump. The normal sludge generation is 2-3% of the total influ-
ent.
The water is lead through a cascade to the bag filter for filtration of but it is in the flocculation stage that 99% of all
contamination is removed.
Filtration.
Even though the water is very clean after the flocculation tank it may contain some small flocks and the system has
a 25µ bag filter to ensure an effluent of < 15PPM.

The CD-Pre treatment system can be upgraded to a Marinfloc CD system approved to the latest IMO regulation MEPC
107(49). This is easily done with an additional module.
