Apreliminary chemical study of a coded Unani herbal

formulation, ITA-06, carried out at the Council's RegionalResearch Institute of Unani Medicine (RRIUM), Srinagar has

revealed that the drug contains at least 64 molecules out of which 33

have been identified as beta caryophyllene, limonene, linolyl acetate, linalool, alpha thujene etc.

The coded Unani formulationthat is prepared using Lavenderofficinalis and Piper nigrum hasbeen chemically analyzed using

modern analytical tools i.e. GC,GCMS, HPTLC. The formulation isbeing used at the various clinicalcentres of the Council to treat

sinusitis quite effectively.Sometimes Lavender officinalis

is substituted with Prunellavulgaris. Therefore Prunellavulgaris was also analyzed usingHPTLC. The results show thatthough the two plants containsome identical chemical moietiesthe concentration in Prunella wasmuch less than Lavender.
