ForthefirsteightweeksofYear6,thechildrenliveandbreatheShakespeare.Across-curricularapproachembracesHistory,English,PSCHE,ArtandDesign,MusicandDesignTechnology.

“TheFestivalprocessgivesstudentsvitallifeskills;itincreasesself-confidenceandaspiration,raisesself-esteemandpromotesteamwork- skillsyoungpeopleneedonwhateverstagelifehasforthem.Fromschoolrefuserswhoseattendancesoars,reluctantreaderswhoseekoutthefulltextsintheirschoollibrary,toautisticyoungpeoplewhounderstandmoreaboutsocialinteraction;wechangeliveseveryyear.”[Shakespeareschools.org]

WithinthecontextoftheShakespeareSchoolsFestivalProjectthedevelopmentofcreativityskillshasbeensecuredbyattendingtothreemainthemes:- Helpingstudentstotakegreaterresponsibilityforplanningandmanagingtheirownlearning- Establishingopenendedapproachestolearning,wherelearnersandstaffworktogethertoexplorethemes.- Theuseofexternalpartnershipstobroadenandenhancethelearningexperiences.InessencetheuniquepowerofperformancehasbeenusedtoignitecuriosityandengagementwithinbothstaffandstudentsalikeastheyworkedtogethertodeveloptheirinterpretationofTheTempest.AtCragsidePrimaryschooldramaiscelebratedforitsinherentworthaswellasaspringboardforwiderlearningopportunitiesacrossthecurriculum.
