The CBECS classifies buildings according to their “principal building activity (PBA)” at the time when the survey is completed. The PBA is defined as the primary business, commerce, or function within each building. For projects with multiple activity classifications, the activity that occupies the most floorspace ultimately defines the usage type category. Buildings are also classified into more specific sub-categories of activities, which are reflected in the “National Office Activity Breakdown” chart below. The CBECS website specifically defines the office principal building activity as “Buildings used for general office space, professional office, or administrative offices. Medical offices are included here if they do not use any type of diagnostic medical equipment (if they do, they are categorized as an outpatient health care building).” More information on building activity definitions can be found on the CBECS website located here: http://www.eia.gov/emeu/cbecs/building_types.html#Office IPCCR Disaggregated EUI CBECS: OFFICE NATIONAL AVERAGE EUI SAMPLE SIZE 976 IPC Climate Region Average EUI SAMPLE SIZE 410 12 billion ft 2 NATIONAL SQUARE FOOTAGE SAMPLE SIZE 976 2.6 trillion kBTU NATIONAL ENERGY CONSUMPTION SAMPLE SIZE 976 EUI 37 The Terry Thomas Seattle, Washington EUI 64.5 BUILDING 0140 Metro Sample Lower Quartile EUI 74.3 EPA Region 8 Headquarters Denver, Colorado EUI 73.3 Golden Hill Office Center Lakewood, Colorado EUI 75.1 Building 0040 Metro EUI 77.2 BUILDING 0032 Metro Sample Median Quartile EUI 85.4 BUILDING 0148 Metro Sample Upper Quartile EUI 102.7 48% 4% 4% 2% 20% 4% 3% 6% 9% SAMPLE SIZE 410 53% 03% 15% 07% 17% 05% a d m i n i s tr a tiv e b a n k /fin a n c ia l g o v e r n m e n t o f f i c e m e d i c a l o ffi c e m ix e d u s e o ffic e o th e r o ffic e National Office Activity Breakdown SAMPLE SIZE 976 NATURAL GAS ELECTRIC IPCCR Utility Breakdown 49.9% 72.0% 28.0% 50.1% consumption percentage cost percentage total cost $23,026.83 | $58,205.13 cost/sq ft $0.49 | $1.23 SAMPLE SIZE 263 heating cooling ventillation water heating lighting cooking refrigeration office equipment computer miscellaneous 37 out of 410 09%, 50% OR MORE DAYLIT IPCCR % of Buildings with Renovations SAMPLE SIZE 410 HVAC SYSTEMS 16% 15% 10% 07% LIGHTING WINDOWS INSULATION created by: sponsored by:
