We Love To Read!

Students in Ms. Salituro and Ms. Olmedo’s class love to read fiction, non fiction and stories written and illustrated by students.

Good Snowy Evening!

Blue Jay’s Nest hosted a small delegation of teachers studying math in kindergarten.

Thank you so much Blue Jay's Nest for welcoming us into your space today. What an amazing

learning experience it was for all of us. We could see how engaged you were in your learning and how evident your "voice" was as we were invited to play with you. As we walked through the space, we saw how your thinking was made visible through the writing, art, and in the many other languages you chose to demonstrate learning. We saw mathematical thinking through out your space and in the learning opportunities you showed us. We heard how your inquiry stance led you to make new discoveries and to ask new wonders!

Thank you Melissa for the math game, we can't wait to play! I will make sure to invite my colleagues at the board office to play the game with me! We will continue to follow your learning journey via twitter. Keep tweeting! A special thank you to Ms. Hasegawa, Ms. Minnema, and Ms. Lio for this opportunity.

Sincerely, Early Years Curriculum Resorce Team and Delegates.

Morning Meals Program Helpers

Yummy snacks for everyone! A few Students in Ms. Mastrogiacomo’s class expressed an interest in the snack program and wanted to be snack helpers. ‘We noticed how hard Ms. Jacinto works, and we wanted to help her out”. Being snack helpers has made us very happy to come to school because not only are we learning the curriculum but also important life skills. Ms. Jacinto has been running the snack program for many years. We feel very helpful to Ms. Jacinto because every day we go downstairs at 10:30am and begin our mini work

day. We do the dishes, clean the counter tops, prepare the snacks for the 15 classes each day and put away the extra snacks classes bring back. We could not believe she would do all of this work by herself! WE LOVE BEING SNACK HELPERS and we are proud to help one of our community members.

Biography

This month students worked on biographies. Students focussed

on individuals who had contributed positively to the world.

Some biographies students researched were Terry Fox, Harriet

Tubman, Ruby Bridges, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and

Mother Teresa and David Thompson. They researched their

early lives, obstacles and contributions to the world. All

students did a great job and shared their knowledge with the

class in an oral presentation.

Holy Thursday

On Holy Thursday, students

from Ms. Silva’s class re-

enacted the last supper meal that

Jesus celebrated with his

disciples. We read the passage

from the Bible and ate bread

and drank juice as symbolic of

the body and blood of Jesus.

Top Left: students put their measuring skills together as they make bread in honour of the Last Supper. Top Right:students sit, reflect and gather as the diciples did with Jesus at the Last Supper. Bottom Left: Students get their feet washed. Students are reminded that Jesus washed the feet of his disciples, that we are here on earth to serve and love one another as equal brothers and sisters.

Jesus has Risen

Easter is a time to remember the story of Jesus and what He did for us to live on this earth. The grade 5 students in Ms. Mastrogiacomo’s class completed many cooperative activities to truly understand the passion of Christ. First, we read and researched the many wonderful miracles and teachings of Jesus. Our class then went on a school Easter Egg hunt throughout the school, not in search of chocolates, but in each egg was a symbolic clue and a bible passage in the stages

leading to Jesus’ death. On Holy Thursday, our class re-enacted the last supper and the washing of the feet. This was very meaningful to us because not only were we mourning while having bread and wine (aka, grape juice) but we expressed to each other that we are all God’s children and are all equal. Our teacher washed a few of our feet, we washed each other’s feet, and we even washed Mrs. Lio’s and Mrs. Hasewaga’s feet. We felt so good about our day that we spread the good news by visiting various primary classes and washing the feet of other students as well. We will never forget the special memories of this Easter.

Josh Binstock Olympic 2012 Athlete visits B.P.P VI

On March 30, 2016 Josh Binstock 2012 Olympic Athlete in Beach Volleyball spoke to BPPVI students and staff. Mr. Binstock shared openly his defeats, challenges and most rewarding moments thus far in his careers. He talks to many students across Canada about following personal dreams, resilience and never giving up. Mr. Binstock reminded students the importance of staying in school and the importance of an education. He was both inspiring and motivating. BPP VI was grateful that Mr.Binstock made time in his busy schedule to visit. Thank you to Ms.Leadbetter for arranging such an event for the school.
