It was great to have so many families there. We all know that when parents are actively involved in school life that children are deemed to have greater academic and social outcomes and it was obvious from the turnout just how invested our parents are here at St Paul’s. As mentioned last night, in looking beyond 2019, we are keen to develop a Master Plan for the school that will assist us with future renovation and building projects. If you were not able to attend the evening, there are so many other ways you can be involved in the life of the school community. Please complete the Parent In- volvement Form attached to the newsletter and return to the office. Yesterday, I had the honour of accompanying our School Captains, Kaveen Somanath and Gabi Reisinger, along with Olivia Raven to the Bombing of Darwin Commemoration Service at the Cenotaph. It was a special time for all of us as we relived the moments of the bombing with a dramatic re-enactment. We were privileged to meet two WW11 War Veterans. Mr Merv Ey, of the 27 th Scottish Battalion, who actually defended the very shoreline at Nightcliff and Rapid Creek, right near St Paul’s. This Sunday, we have our first Children’s Mass for the year, with several children keen to be involved in the choir, doing readings and the offertory procession. Please encourage and support your child in this aspect of their faith journey. Meetings for the Sacrament of Reconciliation are underway. We had one meeting last Wednesday and another one this evening. If you have any queries, please contact our Religious Education Coordinator, Rochelle Long [email protected] This evening we will be having our first St Paul’s School Board meeting. We will be having our AGM in March and will be looking for new board members. If you have a particular interest in the stewardship of St Paul’s and would like to be a part of this active and robust group, please email me [email protected] or the Chair of the Board Ms Gabrielle Mullen. A huge thank you to our P&F for an amazing evening on Friday for our first Disco for the year. There was great excitement and so many ideas about having at least one more this year. Thank you to all helpers and the generosity of many to make the evening a great success! The busyness of the term continues next week with the commencement of our Swimming Program. St Paul’s Catholic Primary School

Newsletter Wednesday 20th February 2019 Term 1 Week 4

Dear St Paul’s Families,

Thank you to all the families who came along to our Parent Information Evening last night. It was

great to have so many families there. We all know that when parents are actively involved in

school life that children are deemed to have greater academic and social outcomes and it was

obvious from the turnout just how invested our parents are here at St Paul’s. As

mentioned last night, in looking beyond 2019, we are keen to develop a Master

Plan for the school that will assist us with future renovation and building projects.

If you were not able to attend the evening, there are so many other ways you can

be involved in the life of the school community. Please complete the Parent In-

volvement Form attached to the newsletter and return to the office.

Yesterday, I had the honour of accompanying our School Captains, Kaveen Somanath and Gabi

Reisinger, along with Olivia Raven to the Bombing of Darwin Commemoration Service at the

Cenotaph. It was a special time for all of us as we relived the moments of the bombing with a

dramatic re-enactment. We were privileged to meet two WW11 War Veterans. Mr Merv Ey, of the

27th Scottish Battalion, who actually defended the very shoreline at Nightcliff and Rapid Creek,

right near St Paul’s.

This Sunday, we have our first Children’s Mass for the year, with several children keen to

be involved in the choir, doing readings and the offertory procession. Please encourage

and support your child in this aspect of their faith journey.

Meetings for the Sacrament of Reconciliation are underway. We had one meeting last Wednesday

and another one this evening. If you have any queries, please contact our Religious Education

Coordinator, Rochelle Long [email protected]

Welcome to Week Four. On the liturgical calendar

we are still celebrating ordinary time. We are

coming close to moving into Lent. On the 6th of

March, Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of

the Lenten period and 1/2 C will hold a liturgy in

the church at 8:30am. All are welcome to receive

the ash on their forehead to mark this occasion.

The first Reconciliation meeting REPEAT for

everybody wishing to make this sacrament, is on

Wednesday 20th February (tonight). We will all

meet at the Church at 6:00pm. The second

meeting is on Wednesday 13th March. The actual

Sacrament is on Wednesday 27th March, 6:00pm

at the Church.

The MJR focus for the week

is, Attitude of Gratitude. When

we focus on the positive

things in life, we realise how

awesome our world in. Happy

people are thankful for what

they have. This week at home

you and your family could talk about 5 things that

they are grateful for.

This week at Friday’s assembly Miss Catherine’s

class (RM 18) will be presenting prayer and the

sacred song. Please come and enjoy the

assembly.

Dear Lord,

Hidden God, if prayer, fasting, and acts of charity

do not make us more loving and generous, then

our Lenten practices will not lead people to ask

what is different about our lives. These Lenten

practices.

Amen

Rochelle Long

Gabi, Kaveen and Olivia with Mr Merv Ey who was in

the 27th Scottish Battalion and on the 19th of Feb 19,

1942 was defending the shoreline at Rapid Creek.

On Tuesday 19th February our School

Captains, Gabi Reisinger and Kaveen

Somanath together with Olivia Raven trav-

elled with Megan Evans to the

Bombing of Darwin Ceremony.

The children found this to be a very

moving experience and were very proud to

represent the School at this event.

Please read their comments regarding this

service. I was amazed how many people survived

the bombing of Darwin. We even got a

signature from an 98 year old.

Gabi Reisinger It was so amazing. We got to

meet two veterans, Merv Ey (98)

and Ted M (100) 101 in June.

We even got a signature! It was

so peaceful to see how many

people had come together,

Olivia Raven

I was full of joy when Merv Ey shook

hands with me and signed my leaflet.

He was one of the most famous

survivors.

Kaveen Somanath

What an awesome start to the term we have had! We have had the Opening School

Mass lead by the class and school camp. It is also very exciting that we have so many

wonderful student leadership positions in both the 5/6 classrooms.

In the classroom we have received our new soundwaves carts. These charts go with the

new Soundwaves spelling program that is being undertaken in the 3-6 years. A new list

of spelling words will be sent home each week. The aim is to practise the sound focus.

Students are learning to focus on the sounds rather than the letters.

Soon we will be meeting up with our buddy class in year 3/4TM to collaborate and work

on building positive relationships.

Please connect to class dojo for class updates and important messages that regularly

get posted. If you are having trouble with this, please come and see me.

From Miss Long and year 5/6

Wow—What a fabulous evening we all had at our Disco.

We wish to give a very heartfelt thanks to

Woolworths—Nightcliff

and

Natasha Fyles

for their generosity in helping to supply the food for the BBQ.

A special mention also goes to our talented Chefs who kept up with our “gastric delights”!!

Des Crowe, Alex Bruce and Lewis Bambling

A final thank you goes to the amazing parents of Year 2 who supplied the drinks and cupcakes.

As you can see without your support these events would not be the success that they are.

For all our new and current families these social gatherings are a way of making friendships and can

offer support to those who do not have any extended family in town.

Keep an eye on the calendar for our future events.

P & F

Dear Families It has been seven months since the new Child Care Subsidy started! It is a good time to check in on your family income estimate. Make sure it is up to date and reflects your and your partner’s in-come for the whole financial year. If your estimate is lower than your actual income, you may get a debt, which you will have to pay back. It is also a good time to check and update your activity test if your circumstances have changed. The easiest way to update your family income estimate is by using your Centrelink online account through myGov, or the Express Plus Centrelink app. While you are there, do not forget to make sure your and your partner’s activity details are up to date too.
