Signs of Success• Culture of Mission• Effectiveness• Stewardship• Culture of Philanthropy
WHAT IS VISION?• Futuristic• Imaginative• Possibility-focused• Alternative to the present
WHAT IS MISSION?• Our purpose• Our raison d’être• The framework of all we do
RESPONDING TO THE GOSPEL•Witness•Proclaim• Invite•Engage•Transform
ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE• The attitudes, experiences, beliefs,
and values of an organization• Simply put, the culture defines how
things are done in an organization and how individuals within it interact with one another.
WHAT IS OUR CULTURE OF MISSION?How do we:• Witness• Proclaim• Engage• Invite• Transform
How do we:• Identify ourselves• Tell our story• Engage others • Invite others• Transform others, our
world, and ourselves
EffectivenessIn business, money is both an input (resource for
achieving greatness) and an output ( a measure of greatness).
In our sector, Collins says, “money is only an input, and not a measure of greatness.”
A great organization is one “that delivers superior performance and makes a distinctive impact over a long period of time.”--Jim Collins, Good to Great for the Social Sector.
The Critical QuestionBusiness asks:
“How much money de we make per dollar of invested capital?”
For us the critical question is:“How effectively do we deliver on our mission and make a distinctive impact, relative to our resources?”--Jim Collins, Good to Great for the Social Sector.
STEWARDSHIP OF THE MISSION IS ABOUT
•Relationship•Resources•Leadership•Growth•Philanthropy
EVIDENCE OF A CULTURE OF PHILANTHROPY
• Demonstrated leadership at all organizational levels• Authentic storytelling and a commitment to
conversation with all stakeholders• Mission-driven systems, staffing, structure,
and processes• Shared values and a collective commitment to
a common goal
The culture of mission and the culture of philanthropy
convergeIn the Ministry of Fundraising.
Because we believe
that what you do is a ministry that is as spiritual as” giving a sermon, entering a time of prayer, visiting the sick or feeding the hungry.”
--Henri Nouwen, The Spirituality of Fundraising

True Mission Advancement The ministry of fundraising is about mission:
--witnessing--proclaiming--engaging--inviting
And it is always transformational for the donor, for all of us, and for our world.
