The MaK product line offers mainpropulsion engines in the powerrange from 1,020 to 16,000 kW andgenerator sets from 970 kWe to 7,680 kWe.

The number of patents awarded to Caterpillar increased for thethird straight year, as Caterpillarhas continued to increase its investment in new products andservices.

In 2007, over 400 employees wereawarded patents on 400 patentsgranted worldwide.

For us, research is not simplydriven by market demands. Welook to new technologies and new ideas in order to drive posi-tive, sustainable change in everycorner of the world – including the seas, lakes and rivers. Marine applications benefit from Cat’soverall activity in test and devel-opment. We think the reason Caterpillarsells more marine diesel enginesover 200 bhp (150 bkW) than anyother manufacturer in the world is that we have invested heavily in research and development to improve upon the natural advan-tages of diesel power.
