DESCRIPTION

THE following Catalogue is the complement of the Catalogue of Fnglish Pottery in the Museum published in 1903. The bulk of the collection h re described was presented by the late Sir Augustus Wollaston Franks, K.C.B. His aim was to gather together such examples of the various wares as would best illustrate the history of the factories, preferring documentary pieces to such as were merely of decorative value. It would not be possible to fix a limit of date in a collection of this class, but comparatively few of the pieces are less than a century old. I have read through the descriptions and introductory matter.
