The new command and control system SYSTEM RF consists of radio-frequency communications devices that integrate with the traditionalelectrical system, allowing the expansion of functionality without recourseto working in walls.

The addition of a control point, thecontrol of temperature and theadjustment of the light of a lampwith remote control, are amongthe most common needs in both residential and commercialsystems, to which the innovativeGEWISS system responds.

EXTREME SIMPLICITY OF CONFIGURATIONIt is not necessary to use any software programming to associate the various devices to each other, just manualadjustments made directly on the devices themselves. Thanks to their functional and installation simplicity, the useof the RF command and control system is particularly indicated for the completion or modification of existingelectrical systems.

AMPLE COVERAGEThe open field distance for radio transmission between devices is a maximum of 100 meters. Given that the systemdevices communicate with each other using radio waves, it is important to evaluate the installation context. In thecase of structural impediments or distances greater than the allowed limits, the use of a signal repeater(GW 20 985 - GW 21 985), is anticipated, which will guarantee the exchange of radio information, even underextreme conditions, and makes the command and control system applicable to any environment.

DESIGNAvailable in BLACK and WHITE

versions with black and whitebutton, respectively, the devicesintegrate perfectly with TOPSYSTEM plates; the choice of 14 colours facilitates the use of theproduct in any installation context.

RELIABILITY AND SAFETYThe system uses impulse data transmission: the devices exchange information using low power radio frequenciesand only for brief transmission periods, with the saving of batteries and a very limited time occupying thefrequency band. The charge status of the battery is indicated by the flashing of the LED which, in addition, allowsdisplaying that the transmission of the RF signal has occurred.

APPLICATION EXAMPLES

1) ADDITION OF A CONTROL POINT

With RF technology, it becomes simple to offer small automation solutions oriented to domotica or to make substantial improvements to the existingelectrical system. Below, we show some application examples that only summarize a few of the many solutions offered by the system.

In the situation to be solved (Fig. 1 and 2):In the generic room indicated in the figure, the luminous charge is controlled by the single switch indicated by "A".For reasons of convenience, after the opening of a passage for the adjacent room, you would need to add another control device indicated by "B".

Solution with RF Command and Control devices (Fig. 3) :The situation is resolved with the addition of the following devices without having to perform construction work:- Push-button - 1-channel TX GW 20 960 - GW 21 960 (position B) for the transmission of the radio-frequency command to the receiver;- Receiver - 1-channel RX GW 20 980 - GW 21 980 (position A) for the reception of the radio-frequency command and turning on the light load.The existing switch is preserved.

Comment:With the addition of the above-indicated devices, you avoid any change to the walls, given that the push-button - TX is installed on the surface whilethe RX receiver is installed in the box that is already there. The connections to be made have only to do with the RX receiver, connected to the line of the load and to the previously installed control device. The 230V electricity required for the receivers is easily derived from the existing system.

Comment:With the addition of the above-indicated devices, you avoid making any changes to the walls, given that the push-button - TX is installed on the surface,while the RX receiver and traditional dimmer are installed in the already existing box. In flush-mounted box "A," the RX receiver is connected to the traditional dimmer, which, in its turn, manages the controlled socket-outlet. The 230V power required for these devices is easily derived from the pre-existing system. Using a simple self-learning procedure, it is possible to combine the RX receiver and the remote control - TX.Note: in the socket-outlet, the light load must be compatible with the electrical characteristics of the dimmer and RX receiver.

2) CREATION OF A CONTROLLED SOCKET-OUTLET POINT

Situation to solve (Fig. 4):In the room indicated in the figure, the generic power socket-outlet indicated by "A" must be used to control a floor lamp. In addition to ON/OFF control,it must also be possible to dim the lamp. The operations must be performed with a control device located in area "B" and by remote control.

Solution with RF Command and Control devices (Fig. 5) :The situation is solved with the addition of the following devices:- Push-button - 1-channel TX GW 20 960 - GW 21 960 (position B) for control and adjustment;- Receiver - 1-channel GW 20 980 - GW 21 980 (position A) for managing the dimmer;- Electronic push-button dimmer GW 21 814 (position A) traditional dimmer connected to the power socket-outlet;- Remote control - TX GW 20 963 for control and adjustment of the floor lamp.The previously installed power socket-outlet is preserved for connection to the lamp.

3) ADDITION OF THE PROGRAMMABLE ELECTRONIC TIMED THERMOSTAT AND GAS DETECTOR

Situation to resolve (Fig. 6):The rooms represent a kitchen and living room in which it is necessary to make the following modifications:- living room: addition (position A) of a programmable electronic timed thermostat for controlling the boiler by RF;- kitchen: addition (position B) of a gas detector for the RF control of the gas electrovalve.

Solution with RF Command and Control devices (Fig. 7) :The situation is resolved through the addition of the following devices:- No. 1 wall-mounted programmable electronic timed thermostat GW 20 970 - GW 20 971-GW 20 972 (position A) for managing the climate and action on the receiver;- No. 2 Receivers - 1-channel RX GW 20 980 - GW 21 980 for connection to the Ch4 detector and the gas electrovalve;- No. 1 traditional Ch4 gas detector GW 21 862 (position B);- No. 1 Transmitter - TX for conventional inputs GW 20 966 - GW 21 966 (position B) to interface the gas detector to the RF system.

Comment:With the addition of the above-indicated devices, you avoid making any changes to the walls, given that the programmable electronic timed thermostatis installed on the surface, while the receivers - RX can be installed in the wall or external box already present in the system.After a simple configuration, based on the events recorded, the programmable electronic timed thermostat and the gas detector control the respectivereceivers - RX for the activation of the boiler and the electrovalve.

4) CENTRALIZED MANAGEMENT OF THE SHUTTERS - MOTORIZED AWNING

Situation to resolve (Fig. 8):In the room in the figure, there are three motorized shutters indicated as A, B and C, and an awning indicated by D. As regards the shutters, the requestis to install, in addition to the local controls (position 2 and 3), a centralized control with the function of "ALL DOWN" in the position indicated by 1.The awning requires a local control (position 3) in addition to the automatic protection against the wind provided by the anemometer.

Solution with RF Command and Control devices (Fig. 9):The situation is resolved with the addition of the following devices:- No. 1 Push-button - 1-channel TX GW 20 960 - GW 21 960 (position 1) for centralized control;- No. 1 Push-button - 2-channel TX GW 20 961 - GW 21 961 (position 2) for controlling shutters A and B;- No. 1 Push-button - 2-channel TX GW 20 961 - GW 21 961 (position 3) to control shutters C and awning D;- No. 4 Controls for motors - RX GW 20 982 - GW 21 982 (positions A, B, C and D) for switching the relative motors;- No. 1 TX Module for conventional inputs GW 20 966 - GW 21 966 (position D) for interfacing the anemometer to the RF system.

Comment:With the addition of the above-indicated devices, you avoid making any changes to the walls, given that the push-button - TX is installed on the surface,while the RX module for controlling the motors and the TX module for conventional inputs can be installed in the box for the shutters.Once the RX modules for the motors and the TX interface module are connected (this latter connects to an anemometer that is available on the market)you proceed to the self-learning phase, and the devices are ready to operate immediately after.

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CONTROLUNITThe control unit is the heart of thesystem, available in two differentmodels, and capable of managing 16 sensors (GW 20 470) or 32sensors (GW 20 471). Thecommunication between devices isprovided by a microprocessor thatselects a random code on thebasis of 34 million billion possiblecombinations. The control unit hasa meter to measure the intensity ofthe radio signal (RF), to verifythe transmission efficiency ofeach individual device to thecontrol unit. In addition, all theinformation relative to "systemstatus" is displayed on the controlunit by LEDs (GW 20 470) or adisplay (GW 20 471).

DEVICES FOR ACTIVATING THESYSTEMWith the remote control (GW 20472) it is possible to completelymanage the system: the total turningon and off of the system, partiallyturning it on, such as a day ornight area, and activating theanti-panic function.

With the proximity key (GW 20 474) it is possible toavoid typing the security code inthe even in which a keyboard ispresent in the system.

On the other hand, the keyboard(GW 20 473) is used to activatethe system by typing a securitycode, to then perform the same operations from the remotecontrol.

The maximum distance (capacity)in an open field between thecontrol unit and the devices(sensors, siren and controls) is 100m. This value allows handling allnormal living units, while forspecial situations, we anticipatethe use of a signal repeater device(GW 20 480).

INSTALLATION CHARACTERISTICSThe system devices communicate with each other by radio waves (RF),and for this reason it is important to evaluate the type and location of therooms to be monitored and operate so as to obtain excellent reception ofthe radio signals. In particular, given that the radio waves are attenuated(their capacity is diminished) by the characteristics of the physical mediumthat they must pass through, it is useful to keep in mind the type of wallobstacles present in the rooms.

ETS SOFTWARE

SYSTEM PROGRAMMING

Programming the "Logic Connections" and function parameters is done through the PC using the ETS Software* (EIB ToolSoftware).Creation of logic connections lets you define in software modehow each device must behave when faced with events occurringin the system.The ETS programming language extensively uses graphicsymbols, so it is extremely easy.

In order to manage a BUS EIB system, in addition to the ETSsoftware it is essential to have the Product Database. It can bedownloaded from the www.gewiss.com website.The database contains all of the information concerning theproducts and lets you select the application program andparameters you want.

*The ETS software, common for allEIB products, is marketed directly bythe EIBA association. ETS is alsoavailable in the Italian version.

THE EIB CABLE

It is extremely important to use a cable that meets the EIBA regulations for EIB systems. Only in this way will the technical-performance characteristics ofthe system be ensured.The EIB-marked cable assures the following characteristics:- maximum length of a line: 1000 m,- maximum distance between the power supply unit and a bus device: 350 m,- maximum distance between two bus devices on the same line: 700 m,- minimum distance between two power supply units belonging to the same line: 200 m.

The red (+) and black (-)conductors are used for busconnection. The yellow and whiteconductors, generally not used,can be usedto make a SELV typeofpower supply available in thesystem.

INSTALLATION EXAMPLES

In addition to the conventional control units, distribution boards andboxes, the 90 EIB range modular devices can also be installed inside thePTC junction box GW 48 762, which is already fitted for housing the EN 50022 bar. In this case it is recommended that several Dimmermodules be placed side-by-side in the same box.

- If the devices are provided with contacts for the bus in the rear part, it isnecessary to fix a data track to the EN 50022 bar.

- If the devices are provided with bus terminal in the front part, it is notnecessary for the data tract to be glued onto the EN 50022 bar. The busconnection is made by connecting the cable directly to the device'sterminal.

The input module GW 90 715 can be installed inside the componentsflush-mounting enclosure. In the pre-assembled versions with SYSTEM WHITE

(GW 20 662), SYSTEM BLACK (GW 21 662) or Playbus (GW 30 662)enclosure, the input module can be mounted in the relevant support andtherefore be integrated with all of the GEWISS domestic ranges.

Inspection and maintenance of emergency systems have never been sosimple.Automatic tests, preventive maintenance queries, system connection viaLAN or remote network.Interventions only when truly needed and maximum managementflexibility permit maintenance costs to be notably reduced and theresources they control to be optimized.

With the special Startec Nemo control units, you can manage systemswith a maximum of 1000 autonomous ceiling luminaires.The control units are equipped with a 1/4 VGA display and a completealphanumeric keyboard so all of the system's data can be enteredconveniently.The matrix printer also lets you print the data clearly and indelibly.

REMOTE CONNECTION VIATELEPHONE SYSTEMThe NEMO control unit can beconnected to a modem with adedicated RS232 serial line on a 9-pole SUB-D connector.Given the communication speedover a phone line, the remotesupervision PC can use the TELNETapplication software without havingto install dedicated software.

CONNECTION TO THE LOCAL NETWORKThe NEMO control unit can be connected to the supervision PC even throughthe local network, LAN (Local Area Network).It is also possible to manage the NEMO control unit from any networked PCon the LAN by using the TELNET application software, already included inthe operating systems (Windows, Unix, Linux). TELNET reports all of the NEMO control unit functions on the PC, both thealphanumeric display information and controls.

NEMO-DIN is the brand new distribution board control unit thatmanages and controls all of the functions of the autonomous ceilingluminaires of the STARTEC NET RANGE.Communication between control unit and lamps takes place according tothe LonTalk® standard Bus protocol.

Automatic recognition of all STARTEC NET ceiling luminaires connectedto the control unit and identification of their identifying codes withconsequent simplicity and time saving when starting the system.

EASY TO USETotal management of the entire system with NEMO-DIN is achieved withhandy consecutive menus in which it is possible to navigate by means of animmediate 4-button Up/Down/OK/Canc. system, entirely similar to thatfound on mobile phones.
