FOREWORDChange is inevitable, however the changes we have seen in our society in the last few years have been remarkable. The institutions we have trusted for many decades have been shown to have feet of clay.In particular the churches and the banks are champions in the decline of morals and ethics. The churches, supposedly bastions of moral authority based on their high Christian ideals, have been shown to be wanting. The church hi-erarchy has been shown as being more committed to preserving their reputation than righting the wrongs of their aberrant clergy, who they protected at almost any cost while also protecting their considerable financial assets.Their moral authority to pontificate over our behaviour has now evapo-rated. Regrettably their actions have also trashed the reputations of the mostly good men and women in their ranks. The banks also have been shown to be ethically wanting. Granting huge loans to people who “Blind Freddy” could have seen would never be able to repay them. And then seizing the assets used to guarantee the loans. All in the interests of profit. They now deeply apologise but this doesn’t repair the damage done to the many people emotionally or financially ruined by their behaviour. Both the churches and the banks had to be dragged screaming to public enquiries, declaring all the time that the problems were not systemic and that they could sort out the problems internally. This was clearly a ruse to avoid the scrutiny thathas manifestly revealed their misbehaviour. We live in interesting times!
