Club Korum tackle will enable more

some of the doubt and confusion about

what tackle is best to get them started.

By creating ready-to-go fishing sets,

complete with all the tackle they need for

an enjoyable days float fishing, feeder

There are three kits in the Club Korum

range. These include a Float Fishing

Kit, Feeder Fishing Kit and finally a Pole

Fishing kit, all containing everything

you or someone you know could need to

become a fisherman. After purchasing

The Float Fishing Kit is the first kit that

Tommy and I had a look at. In this Kit you

Using the pole at its full length is no problem. Its a pole to last you seasons .

will find an Elements 10ft Float rod, made

from Carbon Fibre this super light rod is

capable of landing anything from small

and delicate roach to a big, hard fighting

carp. The 3000 Rear Drag reel is pre-

loaded with 6lb line. It has a superb drag

and a huge amount of winding power to

make sure you land the biggest of fish.

Tommy Pickering told me the following:

This rod and reel setup is great. Its

just what a budding angler needs to

get going. I remember when I first got

into fishing; my first rod was a tank

aerial. There is also a great selection

of floats, shot and hooks that will allow

you to have a brilliant days fishing,

explained Tommy.

The DVD and How To Fish booklet in the

kit will have you or someone you know

fishing in minutes. It only takes one fish

to be hooked!

The great this about going fishing is that

whether you are old or young, a complete

novice or world champion like Tommy,

the fish cant tell. Your next bite could be

from a small scale-perfect roach, a tench,

or even a big hard fighting carp. I just

love float fishing, as does Tommy.

I do yes; watching a float sail under

the water and the moment that a fish is

hooked will always give you the same

adrenalin rush, whether you have been

fishing for three days or 50 years.

The Feeder Kit contains a 10ft Elements

Feeder Rod; made from carbon fibre and

with a brightly coloured tip to show up

your bites. Also in the kit is a 3000 Reel

loaded with 6lb line. The reel has stacks

of winding power and is the ideal reel to

start you off when feeder fishing. Also

included in the kit are all of the rig bits

and a selection of different feeders to set

up an effective feeder rig.

Feeder fishing is my favourite style of

fishing, Tommy told me. I always get a

rush of adrenalin when I watch the tip of

my rod pull round when I get a bite. Make

sure you are watching the tip of your rod

closely to make sure you dont miss any

bites or even get your rod pulled in!

The final pack that we have here is the

Pole Fishing Kit. The 7m Elements pole

comes all ready to go. The Put-Over pole

has different sections to help you reach

where you want to fish. Unlike a rod the

pole has elastic running through the top

section. This provides a cushion for the

fish when it is hooked, much like the drag

on a reel. Tommy is an expert with a pole

and loves this kit.

Pole Fishing is fantastic, watching your

float dip under, striking and seeing the

elastic stretching out of the end. The Pole

kit comes with a variety of different pole

rigs, plummets and even CAD Pots.

You cant beat float fishing. I love spending short sessions after work watching a float twitch amongst a sea of bubbles and its helped me catch some really nice fish of all species.

For these quick-fire trips, you only need

the bare essentials, so I can keep a rod

and a few bits and pieces in the boot of

the car ready for when the mood takes

me. On those balmy summers evenings,

I cant resist the temptation sometimes,

so Im always geared up for the occasion.

Its why the ITM Day Sack is one of

my favourite items of Korum luggage.

This compact bag will house a Tackle

Manager, bait tubs, catapults, floats,

controllers and all the other items you

might need for a short session. Its easily

carried on your back leaving your hands

free to carry a Lightweight Chair, bait

bag and your float rod.

I choose the Neoteric XS Power Float,

because its a four piece rod that fits in

my car boot easily. I can leave it in there

at all times with a small float reel. It goes

together quickly and has a lovely steely

action that makes it great for hitting

finicky roach and crucian bites, but it has

plenty of power in the butt should I be

chasing surface cruising carp or even big

barbel on the river.

Something I highly recommend for float

fishing is a pair of polaroid glasses, and

the Korum brown and grey offerings are

designed to suit different light conditions.

The light brown lenses are better in low light,

whilst the grey is better for brighter days.

They remove the glare from the water, which

makes watching a float a lot easier. They

should also help you spot fish in the water a

lot easier too, so for me theyre an absolutely

essential item of tackle.

Whether its fishing an area of the canal

near my home for a mixed bag of fish,

sitting out in a boat for a monster tench

on my syndicate lake or just stalking

carp, the adrenalin rush as your waggler

disappears with an angry fish on the end

just cant be beaten.

So when youre thinking about how little

time youve got to get out fishing this

Know Your Kit...One super simple way to setup your rods is either with a Korum Float Adaptor on the line, or to use something like a Ready Heli-Kit with a Snap-Link Swivel. Both of these setups are great

when youre using controller

simply adjusting where the snap

swivel sits on the line, you can

alter the depth that youre fishing

your hookbait.

Another great product for the

short session float angler are the

Rubber Braid Stops, which you

can semi-fix smaller wagglers

between. Again, this is totally

adjustable and works especially

well with pre-loaded wagglers.

Rather than using shot to secure

the float, you use the Rubber

Braid Stops, which will grip the

line effectively and hold your

float in place. Should you want

to shallow up or go deeper, just

move the stops up or down the

line to suit.

GIANTSLets talk about Sleeper Rods. The best thing about coarse fishing in the UK is the wide variety of species that can be caught. Whilst youre merrily float fishing in the margins, you could be missing out on a bonus fish from the middle of the lake. That was until bite alarms were invented, of course, where you can leave a rod out fishing and simply wait until the alarm screams into life.

As a technique waiting for bigger species

like carp and pike, the Sleeper Rod

approach is the best way to make a good

days fishing a great one. Not only can

you continue fishing a more hands-on

method like quiver-tipping or the waggler,

you can have a heavy duty setup sat

waiting for a potential new personal best.

In the summer, Id recommend something

like a Method feeder approach on your

Sleeper Rod, or maybe something like a

PVA bag using the Korum PVA System.

This will single out bigger tench and

bream, as well as carp, so is well worth

considering as a way of boosting your

days fishing.

During the colder months the fishing can

be extremely tricky. Part of the problem

is knowing which species are most

likely to feed, because only then can

you figure out which approach to take

to try and catch something. One surefire

way to bag a few bonus bites in the

Id recommend a Method feeder

approach You can fish a quiver tip for smaller species whilst your sleeper rod sits waiting for a big fish.

Pull the Korum Quick Change bead apart like this.

Pull the sleeve of the bead back down, securing the hook link.

Thread your reel line through the thick end of the bead and through the hole.

Tie a four turn grinner knot to secure the Quick Change Bead.
