insulators insulate the power from the wooden or iron posts, so that it wont flow to the ground.

earthing conducts the power back to the energizer when (long) grass or touched by an animal interrupts the closed loop.

The energizer emits power, which moves around via the wire. When an animal comes into contact with the fence it gets a safe, but powerful shock. As a result the animal will see the fence as a barrier and will stay away. After the animal makes contact with the fence the power will be transmitted from the animal and return via the earth rods of the earthing system to the energizer. Proper earthing is very important as the power has to be able to flow back to the energizer in order to keep the loop system closed. If the earthing is not adequate, the closed loop system will be unreliable. The following parts are essential in order to ensure that a fence is fitted properly and will function correctly.

very DUrableHigh Tensile fencing is very durable and suitable as a permanent fence. It will easily last 20 to 30 years, and it is ideal for fencing in cows, sheep and game. Electric fencing has many advantages over conventional fencing for cattle. Barbed wire can harm the skin or, even worse, the cows udder. High Tensile wire avoids this. A 2-strand system is sufficient for safe, permanent dairy cattle fencing. A 3-strand system is the ideal solution for beef cattle with calves. Unwanted animals such as wild deer and pigs, ferrets and foxes can also be kept away from your crops and young trees with Gallagher fencing. Safe and permanent fencing to deter wild animals consists of an Insultimber system of 3 to 6 strands.

9gallagher high tensilewire is qUite something!This Gallagher H.T. wire features special properties and a minimum product guarantee of 10 years. This wire is many times better than any other steel wire. An aluminium coating over the 2.5 mm core provides superior conductivity, up to 15 times higher than ordinary 2.5 mm steel wire. The wires tensile strength is extremely high too: up to 500 kg. This wire can be very tightly tensioned and in combination with tension springs a distance of 20 metres between posts is possible. This greatly reduces your costs per metre as you require much less material for a reliable and durable fencing system.

insUltimber self-insUlating timberThis type of wood features the special property that the wood is completely self-insulating, which means that no insulators are needed and that the post is extremely durable. We have Insultimber fences at locations that have been in place for more than 30 years! Insultimber is a completely natural product, without the addition of any environmentally harmful impregnation agents. The commercial exploitation of Insultimber is kept under strict control: a special forestry plan is operated to prevent damage to nature and regulate planting. The post blends perfectly into the landscape. The posts are covered by a 10-year guarantee. That means that you do not need to use insulators, and the fence wire is fastened to the post with the connection wire.

This is the most durable and safe Gallagher fence for horses. Equifence is an elastic cable with a galvanised core. The 3mm plastic covering protects the horse against the galvanised core. the perfect horse fence!Horses are flight animals with three-dimensional vision. This means that they see movement in the distance much better than they can see close-up. Therefore, fencing tape needs to be wide to be visible to a horse. If a horse does break through the fence, Gallagher TurboStar tape provides a safe solution as it will break easily, minimising the risk of injury. The first Gallagher tape fence is still standing after 25 years.

ecopost gallaghers green fencing postThe Plastic Eco post consists of 100% recycled material (polypropylene). This material and the cross-shape ensure cast iron quality. The cross-shape also ensures the post stands fi rmly in the ground. You do not need any additional insulators to attach the wire. You just use fi xing wire or clips. There are predrilled holes at the usual wire spacings and they have a 10-year guarantee.

Electrify your garden fence how does it work?When connecting the + and wires, an animal will receive a small shock. The bottom wire (-) serves an earthing function. For example when a cat climbs the fence, it will contact this bottom wire with its back paws. The front paws will contact the wire above (+), thus closing the electric circuit. This causes a shock reaction, deterring the cat from attempting to scale the fence again.

Make a Blueprint of the fence you want. This will give you insight into how the power flows through the fence. We advise you to locate the energizer as centrally as possible. And use switches to create different zones.

1. Determine the correct height of the corner posts on the basis of the height of the fence. Gallagher advises you on the correct height in the height calculator.

2. For a fence of up to 1 metre building height, a 2.00m high corner post will suffice. For fences with a building height of up to 1.50m, Gallagher recommends a corner post of at least 2.50m high. For fences with a building height of more than 1.50m, Gallagher recommends corner posts of 3.00 to 3.50m high.

3. The difference of length and height of the fence is the depth of the post in the ground.4. Drill a hole with a ground drill5. Make sure that the corner post is fitted at an angle of 5 degrees against the pulling direction.6. Depending on the distance between the corner posts, we would recommend fitting a ground bar. Use this when the distance is

more than 100m.7. Fit the corner insulators if necessary (insultimer posts do not require insulators)

1. The corner posts have been placed (step 3), and you now want to place the intermediate posts. In order to determine the correct position of the intermediate posts, Gallagher recommends that you fit and tighten the conductor from corner post to corner post first. The intermediate posts can then be positioned parallel to the tightened conductor. This will give you a perfect line. The conductor is tightened with a special tensioner (art. 010882)

2. Measure the distance between the corners and fit the intermediate posts in such a way that the distance between posts is the same.

3. The intermediate posts are placed at a distance of 7 to 40 metres apart. The distance depends on the material used, the type of fence and the landscape.

tip: The tension spring (036257) will keep the wire always tense and elastic, whether the weather is hot or cold. If you use tension springs, you can double the distance between posts. That helps to keep the costs down. Moreover, the corner posts will stay in place for longer, and you will have less maintenance work on the fence.

1. Fit the energizer as described by the manual. We advise to fit the energizer as centrally as possible.

2. Then fit the earthing with 1m or 2m earth rods, depending on the fence energizer. Gallagher recommends that you follow the advice, as good earthing is crucial for the proper functioning of your electric fence.

3. Drill a hole with a ground drill and place the earth rod in it.4. Connect the energizer (green button) and the earthing clip

with a double-insulated cable.Please check for the best fitted insulated cable in your situation on www.gallagher.eu.

5. Make sure the earthing rod and cable are at least 10 cm below ground level.6. Make sure you use Bentonite earthingmix when you ground is very dry. Fill the hole with this mixture up no further then the

earthing clip and insulated cable. 008773. 7. Fill the last part of the hole with the ground which is left over. And sprinkle the ground with water until the ground is equal again.8. Repeat this procedure for every earth rod.

The number of earth rods you need depends on the type of energizer. tip: Make sure if you need more than 1 earth rod, the space between them is at least 3 meters.

tip: Each connection means current loss. The better the connection, the less current is lost.

2. The correct tension is important to ensure that when an animal touches the fence, it gets an electric shock immediately. This makes it more of a psychological barrier to the animal.

3. Fit the wires onto the intermediate posts and connect the different wires with wire clips.

Is the difference to the Voltage of the energizer more than 1500V? (E.g. energizer was 6000V and the fence is 4000V? That is more than 1500V)

9 Go back to your energizer and check your earthing (step 11).

Is the difference to the Voltage of the energizer less than 1500V? (E.g. energizer was 6000V and the fence is 5500V? That is less than 1500V)

Before you proceed the voltage on your fence has to be less than 1000V. If its not, place another iron post near the other iron post. And check again. Continue doing this until the voltage is less than 1000V.

Measure the voltage on the earthing with a digital volt meter or a Fault Finder by placing this on the earth stake.

9 Do you measure more than 300 Volt? o Please install more earth stakes and check the voltage again.

Continue doing this until you have less than 300 Voltage on your earth stake

9 Do you measure less than 300 Volt? o The earthing on your energizer is fine. Continue with step 11.
