Aging cell
This High Temperature Aging Cell has 500-1000 ml Volume, 303 stainless steel with pressurization
valve.
High Temperature Aging Cells have been developed to aid in predicting the performance of a drilling
fluid under static, high temperature conditions. Recent drilling fluid research has indicated the
desirability of applying pressure before heating samples to elevated temperatures in aging tests.
For this purpose, we has available aging cells which can be pressurized with nitrogen or carbon
dioxide to a desired pressure to prevent boiling and vaporization of the drilling fluid before
it reaches the test temperature. Temperatures and the resulting vapor pressures up to approximately
500F can be accommodated in aging cells which have been equipped with a valve for pre-pressuring.
High Temperature Aging Cells are designed for testing fluids at temperatures as high as 500 F.
The 500ml are provided for greater volumes of fluid to be tested as higher temperatures, with
sufficient space for expansion as a safety factor.
Some cells include a valve and pressure connection for pre-pressuring the cell before heating.
The connection to the pressure source is made in the same manner as that used on the HPHT filter
presses so that standard nitrogen or CO2manifolds can be used for this purpose.

Linear Swell Meter The Linear Swell Meter Model 2000 (LSM) helps determine shale hydration or dehydration by measuring
the increase or decrease in length over time of reconstituted or intact shale core. Together the LSM and
Capillary Suction Time (CST) tests determine the recommended mud system for drilling through a specific
shale formation. First, a CST test is conducted to determine the correct inhibitor for the shale. Then, a
variety of fluids are tested.
Test results are graphed to show the percent of swelling versus swelling time in minutes. The LSM test
demonstrates the inhibitive effects of these various fluids on shale swelling.
Dynamic Linear Swell Meter
Investigating the swelling characteristics of shale formations is vital in selecting a proper drilling fluid to
give maximum inhibition and wellbore stability. While drilling a well, a shale formation will immediately
begin to swell if the drilling fluid is not completely compatible with the formation. This swelling can cause
many problems, such as bit balling, pipe drag, hole sloughing, or other "gumbo" related problems.
Therefore, selecting the proper drilling fluid prior to, or during the drilling operation, can be very beneficial
in achieving a stable wellbore.
The Linear Swell Meter is designed to simultaneously test up to four drilling fluids (expandable to eight) on
a representative shale sample for extended periods of time at temperatures up to 180F.
Most swell meters are designed to test shale samples in static fluid. However, fluids circulate as you drill,
so testing shale samples in a static environment does not always provide accurate readings.
The Linear Swell Meter is the only swell meter on the market capable of dynamically testing your fluids, so
you obtain the most accurate data possible.
Permeability Plugging Apparatus
The Permeability Plugging Apparatus (PPA) is designed to provide accurate simulation and measurement
of down-hole static filtration. This 5,000 psig rated PPA is ideal for predicting how a drilling fluid can form a
permeable filter cake to seal off depleted/under pressure intervals. The PPA utilizes a conventional HTHP
Heating Jacket to simulate reservoir temperature. The fluid cell is inverted, with pressure applied from the
bottom of the cell and filtrate collected out the top. Pressure is transferred to the mud by a small hydraulic
hand pump through a small floating piston within the cell. The PPA employs a ceramic filter disc, which is
available in varying porosities. The disc offers a more authentic representation of the formation.

Permeability is a measure of the ability of a fluid to flow through a porous media when subjected to a

The primary function of a well cement is to isolate/seal the casing from the well bore. This seal prevents
the migration of fluids into the annulus and upwards to the surface. Therefore, it is imperative that a well
cement exhibit very low permeability.
The permeability of a petroleum reservoir is one of the most influential factors governing the production
capabilities of a producing formation.

The Permeameter is utilized to measure the permeability of cement or core specimens one inch in
diameter and one inch in length. The specimen is placed into a sleeve, which is then inserted into the
"Modified Hassler" style test cell. Nitrogen at a constant flow rate is forced through the core and the
differential pressure across the core is measured. The flowrate is measured with calibrated flowmeters.
Viscosity is easily determined by the use of nitrogen property tables. These variables are incorporated into
Darcys law to calculate cement sample permeability.

Garrett gas train test
The Concentration of Sulfides Detection Kit(Garrett gas train test) are used for detection the
concentration of soluble sulfide in drilling fluids . the soluble sulfides include hydrogen
sulfides (H2S),the sulfide (S-2) and the bisulfide(HS
-) ion. Utilizing a weak acid in the Garrett
Gas Train,the drilling fluids filtrate liberate H2S gas from the sulfide, and let out with bubbling
an inert gas. The Garrett gas train separates the gas from the liquids, and the gas pass a Draeger
tube that responds to H2S by progressively dardkening along its length as the H2S react with the
reagent. The length of darken is direct ratio with the total concentration of the sulfides in the
filtrate. The low-range Draeger tube is white until H 2S turns it brownish-back. The high-range
Draeger tube is pale blue until H2S turns it jet black. No known common drilling fluid component
or contaminant causes this coloration of the Draeger tubes as does H2S.
A hydrogen sulfide test paper disk can be accommodated in the Garrett gas train for routine tests
until evidence of the presence of H2S is noted by discoloration of the hydrogen sulfide test
paper,then a Draeger tube should be used for quantitative analysis.
