Reverse osmosis occurs when the water is moved across the membrane against the concentration gradient,rom lower concentration to higher concentration.
In this process, pressure is exerted on the side with the concentrated solution to orce the water moleculesacross the membrane to the resh water side.
This method o fltration is ast becoming norms or commercial and residential water fltration.
It is also one o the preerred methods used worldwide to desalinate seawater. Reverse osmosis is alsoused in the fltration o drinking water and ultra-pure systems.
The UF membrane system operates on an out-to-in mode where the eed stream ows on the outside othe membrane with the fltrate owing through the inside. Due to the double-skin construction o the
membrane, the fltrate undergoes double fltration during the operation. The reject stream ows o theouter skin o the membrane and is concentrated along the length o the membrane.
The reject stream is bled-o to prevent the build-up o solids in the membrane modules. Such eed andbleed operation allows the UF to operate continuously beore the need or backwash thereby improvingrecovery and availability o the system.

Pure Water System
Pure water system is used or pharmaceutical processes which constantly involve elevated temperature,aggressive solvents, acids and caustics. The wastewater generated oten has high solid content and
stickiness, which is dicult to treat to meet industrial discharge criteria.
Hence, membrane technology has been adopted in the purifcation process o wastewater, leading to
the high recovery rate o the useul elements in the wastewater stream.
Ultra Pure SystemUsed in Semiconductor/MicroElectronics industry where high purity water such as ultra-pure water is
used. Water pre-treatment, post treatments as well as water source management are priority activities
or the semiconductor companies or environmental and economic purposes.
Drinking Water SystemWater used or human consumption has to meet WHO (World Healthy Organization) as well as govern-
ment regulations. That is why, Hyux includes processes like reverse osmosis, ultra-violet lights and even
ultra- Filtration treatments to treat and puriy water. Hyux-IBB is able to provide small drinking
(1m3/day) to municipal sized plants (500,000m3/day).

Pre-treatment
Hyuxs pre-treatments aid the desalination process so as to avoid a system overload rom the untreated
water in the later processes. At this stage, the source o the untreated water that needs treatment is
specifed and based on that, a thorough water analysis is perormed. Hyux-IBBs preerred pre-treatmentsolutions include ultra-fltration or just DAF and even Clarifers.

Reverse Osmosis
The 2-pass RO system ensures that treated water complies with World Health Organizations drinking
water quality standards. The pre-treated seawater is pumped at high pressure through semi-permeable
reverse osmosis membranes. No bacteria, viruses, chemicals or dissolved minerals can pass through the
membranes. 45% o the inuent seawater is recovered rom the 1st pass RO, or treatment in the 2nd
Pass RO. The 2nd Pass RO urther treats the water and recovers 90% o the water. An energy recovering
system is employed to ully utilize the residual energy rom the 1st Pass RO.
Post-treatment
Post-treatments help to ensure that the treated water meets the exact quality required by end-users
such as Municipal governments, industry users or specialty processes and ood and beverage.
