Refrigeration SystemAllLargeVerticalunitsizeshavedualindependentcircuits.Eachcircuitincludesascrollcompressor,reversingvalve,waterto-refrigerantcoaxialheatexchanger,expansionvalve,airsidecoil,andsafetycontrols.Thecompressorislocatedadjacenttothecompressorac-cesspanelandisolatedfromabottompanelwithrubberisolators.

LVC & LVW Features & OptionsThereversingvalveisenergizedintheheatingmodeandwill“fail-safe”tothecoolingmode,whichisthepredomi-nantmodeofoperation.Bothheatexchangercomponentsincorporateadvanced-heattransfertechnologies.Thecoaxialheatexhangerhasacopperinnertubeandsteeloutertube.Thelargefaceareacoilhascoppertubesandaluminumfins.Geothermalunitsincludecoilandpipinginsulationtoprotectagainstconden-sationinlowtemperatureapplications.Safetycontrolsoneachrefrigerantcircuitincludeasuc-tionlinetemperaturesensor,lowrefrigerantpressureandhighpressureswitchestolockoutcompressoroperationatextremeconditions.Thesafetycontrolscanonlyberesetfromthemaindisconnectswitchtopreventunauthorizedreset.Eachcircuithashighandlowsiderefrigerantservicevalvesforrefrigerantcircuitdiagnosticsandcharging.

Thermal Expansion ValveUnitsincludeaThermalExpansionValve(TXV)forrefrigerantmetering.TheTXVallowstheunittooperateatoptimumefficiencywithfluidtemperaturesrangingfrom25°Fto110°F,andenteringairtemperaturesrangingfrom40°Fto90°F.TheTXVpreciselymeterstheexactamountofrefrigerantflowthroughthesystemtomeettheloadanddeliverratedheatingandcoolingcapacity.

MicroTech® III ControllerTheMicroTechIIIControllerisamicroprocessor-basedcontrolboardconvenientlylocatedintheunitcontrolboxforeasyaccessthrougharemovableaccesspanel.Thestandaloneunitcontrollerisahardwiredinterfaceandprovidesallthenecessaryfieldconnections.Theboardcanbewiredfor24-voltACoutputtothewallthermostatbyusingterminalsR&C.AnLEDannunciatorislocatedonthefrontoftheunitchassistoallowquickcheckoftheunitoperatingstatus.

MicroTech III Operating FeaturesAssumescyclefanoperation-notcontinuousfanoperation:■ Start-up –Theunitwillnotoperateuntilalltheinputs

andsafetycontrolsarecheckedfornormalconditions.■ Cooling mode –Onacallforcoolingfromthewall

thermostat,thecontrollerwillenergizethefanrelayandstagecompressorstosatisfythespacetemperaturesetpoint.Whentheloadissatisfied,thecontrollerwilldisablethecompressorandfan.

■ Heating Mode –Onacallforheatingfromthewallthermostat,thecontrollerwillenablethefan,energizecircuitonereversingvalveandcircuit1compressortosatisfythespaceheatingsetpoint.Ifthespacetemperaturesetpointisnotsatisfield,circuittworeversingvalveandcircuit2compressorwillbeenergizedandrununtiltheheatingsetpointatthethermostatissatisfied.

■ Random Start Power-up Delay Timer –Intheeventofabuildingpoweroutage,thisfeaturepreventsmultipleunitsfromstartingsimultaneouslyuponbuildingpowerrestoration.

■ Unoccupied Mode –Asimple“grounded”signalbetweenterminalsUandC(nopowersourcerequired),putstheunitintotheunoccupiedmodefornightsetbackoperation.

■ Interstaging Timer –Adefaultvalueof5minutesbetweenstagingofcompressors,thisfeatureminimizesshortcyclingofcompressorsandimprovescomfort.

■ Override Mode –Aswitchonthedeluxeautomaticchangeoverthermostatcanbeactivatedduringtheunoccupiedmodetoputtheunitbackintotheoccupiedmodefortwohoursforafter-hoursheatingorcooling.

■ Motorized Valve/Pump Restart –TheIV/PR(H8)terminalsontheTheMicroTechIIIunitcontrollerareusedtoenergize(open)amotorizedvalveorstartawaterpumptogetwatercirculatingpriortostartingthecompressoroncallforheatingorcooling.TheIV/PR(H8)terminalmaybe“daisychained”betweenamaximumof200units.

■ Brownout Protection –TheMicroTechIIIunitcontrollermeasurestheinputvoltageandwillsuspendcompressorandfanoperationifthevoltagefallsbelow80%oftheunitnameplateratedvalue.AuniqueLEDstatusisgenerated.

■ Unit Shutdown –Asimplegroundedsignalputstheunitintotheshutdownmode.Compressorandfanoperationsaresuspended.AuniqueLEDstatusisgenerated.

■ Condensate Overflow Protection –TheMicroTechIIIcontrollerincorporatesaliquidsensoratthetopofthedrainpan.Uponsensingwaterflow,coolingoperationissuspended.AuniqueLEDstatusisgenerated.

■ Remote Reset of Automatic Lockouts –TheRemoteResetfeatureprovidesthemeanstoremotelyresetautomaticlockoutsgeneratedbyhigh-pressureand/orlow-temperaturefaults.WhentheMicroTechIIIcontrollerisinautomaticlockoutduetooneofthesefaults,andthecauseofthefaultconditionhasbeenalleviated,energizingtheO-terminalfor10secondsormorewillforcethecontrolboardtoclearthelockout.Aunitpowercyclecanalsobeusedtoclearanautomaticlockoutiftheconditionscausingthefaulthavebeenalleviated.
