KLIKS proles have been designed for simple installation.

With versatile height adjustment and pre-drilled bases the

Spectrum range is quick and easy to install.

    Installation Environment

Care should be taken that the proles are not tted or stored, prior to tting, in extreme

conditions of cold or warmth. The ideal conditions for tting are with temperatures in the range of

    15oC - 25

oC. Allowing a period of acclimatization will assist in achieving a satisfactory result.

Ensure that when tting the tops into the bases, the prole section is not heated with hot air guns/hot

water, which can lead to the material being inadvertently stretched whilst being tted into position.

If the proles are stretched during installation they will over time, revert to their original size, leaving

gaps at the joints and ends.

    Joints

The base prole joints should be staggered with a minimum overlap of 150mm, wherever possible

position the joints away from main trafc areas.

When using the proles in curved situations it is recommended that an adhesive x be also applied

into the base (50mm along) at the joints.

The following table shows the minimum radii of KLIKS Spectrum curves, when in a KB1 base, at

    normal room temerature.

    Profile Radius (m) Tail Position

1.5mtail of ramp on theouter edge of circle

    KSP6 ZipKSP73 Zip

    1.7mtail of ramp on the

    inside of circle

    Maintenance

PVC ooring proles should be cleaned with a mild detergent with water on a damp - not wet - cloth,

ensuring that the prole is wiped dry before allowing trafc to return to area.

Polishes and industrial cleaning agents should not be used on PVC flooring profiles.

    Radius

    Stage 1

Bases are secured to sub oor with asuitable cartridge adhesive and No.6countersunk screws.

    Stage 2

Once the base is rmly securedto the sub oor, the ooring canbe laid up to the base section.

    Stage 3

The top section may then betted by hand or using a softmallet if necessary.

    LRV Light Reflective Value

LRV is a measurement which expresses the percentage of light that is reected from a surfacewith lighter nishes at the upper end of the scale and darker nishes at the lower.

Designers of buildings need to comply with the building regulations applicable to the structureunder consideration. Since 2004 guidance has existed on access to and use of buildings. Theguidance is particularly concerned with provisions to assist the disabled, including those whoare visually impaired.

The guidance highlights the need for certain surfaces and features to contrast visually withtheir surroundings.

This is relevant to a wide range of non residential buildings including hospitals, schools, hotels, theatres etc.

The current guidance in the regulations and in the relevant codes of practice BS8300:2009 isthat adequate visual contrast is provided if the Light Reective Values (LRV) of the contrastingareas exceeds 30 points, ie the contrast between the stair edging and the oorcovering.

The testing equipment used to assess the LRV values on C.A.T. product nishes is aintergrating sphere spectrophotometer.

    Fixing

    Stair Nosings - standard drilling

All aluminium proles, except Olympic 35, are supplied pre-drilled and countersunk for No.8screws unless otherwise requested. Holes are through the aluminium, centred in thev-groove(s) as shown below:

Hole positions are 75m,m in from ends at

    approximately 250mm centres.

Recommended FixingsAs with all installations, the substrate must be sound and reasonably level. Any remedial workmust be done before installing the prole(s).

The heavy duty nature of Carbigrip lled proles requires that they are always screw xed. Itis also advisable to bed all proles on to a suitable adhesive to reduce/remove the potential forrattle in the nished installation.

The recommended screw size is a No.8 (M5) woodscrew with a countersunk head to suitthe standard pre-drilled holes. Always use stainless steel screws (or bolts/nuts if xing tosteelplate).

The chosen bedding adhesive must be suitable for external use (recommendations areavailable) and used in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations.

Where xing has to be by adhesive only, use a product with high strength mechanicalproperties which is specically designed for structural bonding (recommendations areavailable). Cartridge adhesives typically used for xing decorative nosings; e.g. Gripll, F32etc., are not recommended for this purpose.

Stair Nosing MaintenanceTo ensure effective anti-slip is maintained and that the edge of the step(s) remains adequatelydened, the installed nosings and treads must be cleaned on a regular bases. Cleaningshould be carried out by gently scrubbing with a solution of proprietary detergent and warmwater.

The aluminium prole(s) can be buffed using a ne grade steel wool or similar.

    Maintenance Guide

    Brass RodsAll brass will tarnish

    with atmosphere.

In order to maintain apolished nish on rods, regular polishing

is required with a suitable metal polish.

Regular polishing is particularly important in

public areas where contact with passers by

and even beverages can tarnish the surface

    of the brass.

We do not recommend the use of any

water based cleaning agents, as this is very

likely to accelerate tarnishing and can leadto staining and corrosion. Please note the

longer water stains or water based cleaned

surface are left unpolished, the more difcult

    it is to remove stains.

Lacquers are not recommended and will

prevent tarnishing for a limited period only

and at which time it may be required to strip

    remaining lacquer and repolish rods.
