In ordertoavoid malfunctionsand damage, thestrength ofthevibra-tionsintheoperatingstatemaynotexceed acertainthreshold. Thisisachieved bystaticallyand dynamicallybalancingthecorrespondingparts.

Ifthepumpsaresubjecttoadditional externalvibrationsduetoun-favourableinstallation and connections,thesevibrationsaresuper-imposed. Thesevibrationscan puthigh levelsofstresson individualcomponents.

    In order forthepumpstowork withoutdisturbancesandtohavelongservicelives,theymustbeinstalled accordingtothegenerallyvalidrulesoftechnology.

    General notes

    Thevolumeflowtobehandled bythepumpmustexceedthevolumeflow ofapproachingsewage. Makesurethatthepumpsrun asclose

    totheoptimum dutypointaspossibletoensuredurabilityand opti-mum performance.

Consider alossin performancewith increasingpumpage. Thevolumeflow and pressurescan benegativelyinfluenced byabrasion and cor-rosion.

    Designthepumpsothatitoperatesasefficientlyaspossible.Steeppumpcurvespreventclogginginthepressurepipe, sincewhen

    there'sincreased backpressure,thepumpalsoincreasespressurealongitspumpcurveand rinsesawaythedeposits.

    When selectingaccessories,takethematerial propertiesintoconsid-eration with regardtothecorrosion- and abrasion-resistance.

Compensatefor peak inflowsfor economical and safetyreasonsbyusingdouble-pumpsystems(pumpsplitting, standbypumpisalways

tobeconsidered separately). Ifthetransfer point(drainagepipe) liesunderneaththesumplevel, ventilation should beprovided, sinceotherwisethecreated suctioncould emptythecompletesump, incl.thepump. Thiswould resultin

ventilation difficultiesand shouldthereforebechecked in advance. Observethevariousoperatingconditionsfor pipeswhich arenotper-

manentlyinstalled in oneplace. Thepartial and full-fillingsituationsshould beobserved.

Pipe and pump materialWhen designing, observethatthefollowinginfluencescould meanadditional requirementsforyour system:

Flowvelocityofthefluid > Noises, wearpHvalueofthefluid > Material damage, corrosion Chemical constituentsofthefluid > CorrosionAtmosphericconditions, such ashumidity, saltcontentintheair, etc.

    > Corrosion Outsideand fluidtemperature> Fluid aggressiveness, corrosionDwelltimeofthefluid inthepipe> Odour development Leakagecurrentsduetousingmaterialshavingdifferentelectron

    negativity

Duetothematerial changesandtheresultingpressurelevel change, pipesfor underground useshould bedesigned asPN 10pipes.

Wet well installation or stationary tank installation

With wetwell installation, thepumpisinstalled inthefluidtobepumped. Themotor iscooled bythecirculatingsewage. Theadvan-

tageofthistypeofinstallation islow investmentcostscomparedtothemoresophisticated pumpingstation designsfor dry-installedsewagepumps. In such acase, aconstruction aboveground or an in-

Stationary dry well installationThedrywell installationvariant, in particularthedry-installed sub-mersiblepump, providesanumber ofadvantagescomparedtodry-installed pumps, and alsocomparedtowet-installed submersiblepumps.

Installation principle of a dry-installed submersible pumpThemain differencefrom awet-installed submersiblepumpisthedesign ofthemotor. Itisafullyencapsulated motor with internalclosed-circuitcooling. A distinction ismadebetween an open coolingsystem and aclosed coolingsystem. With an open coolingsystem,

thefluidtobepumped isused asthecoolant. With aclosed system(single-chamber ortwo-chamber system), coolingisperformed byan external fluid, such ase.g. water-glycol or medical whiteoil, in aclosed circuit.

Another main differencefromthewet-installed submersiblepumpisthatthedry-installed submersiblepumpisnotinstalled inthefluidtobepumped. Intermsofthetechnical construction, an intermediatebaseisrequired directlyinthepumpingstation. Themajor advantag-esarethecombination. V2A comesfromtheThyssen Kruppdefinition (testseries2,typeAustenite) for achrome-nickel steel. Thisisthegenerallycommonstainlesssteel standard inthepumpindustry, which unifiesthestrength propertieswith goodtemperatureresistance. In addition,

    thematerial isveryresistanttoorganicsolutions.

    Stainless steel 1.4404 - V4A (AISI 316L - X2CrNiMo17-12-3)V4A comesfromtheThyssen Kruppdefinition (testseries4,typeAustenite) and referstoahigh-alloyed non-rustingsteel (ascom-paredto1.4301) with amolybdenum constituent, which can some-

timesalsobeused in seawater. High strength and high elasticityarecharacteristicfeatureswhich makestainlesssteel superiortocastiron.

Cast ironCastiron isthestandard material in pumpconstruction. Foryears, mostunitshavebeen madeofcastiron. Theadvantagesofcastironaremainlytheir priceand robustness.

PE-HD (polyethylene - high density)Themostused material in pipeconstruction for sewagepipeswith

verygood chemical resistanceand extremelylow surfaceroughnesstopreventdepositingand flow losses. High impactresistanceand ul-timatestrain with low influenceoftemperatureareother advantag-es. Thematerial PE100isused moreand morein practiceand isre-placingPE80and GGG. Advantages, such aslayingpipesduringrenovations, offer ahigh cost-savingspotential.

    PP (polypropylene)Temperatureresistanceaswell aschemical resistancecharacterize

    thismaterial. DIN 8078 isextremelyrobustthankstothehigh impactresistanceofthematerial.

PUR (polyurethane)PUR isavailablein manyvariations. TheoutstandingadvantagesofBaydur GS, which isused byWiloand hasbeen proven in industrialapplications, such asthehigh chemical resistancetodiluted acids, al-kalinesolutions, motor oils, greases, benzines, etc. aswell asthecor-rosion- and micro-resistance, arepredestined for usein aggressivefluids. In addition, itischaracterized byitssuperior wear-resistance,rotresistance, weather resistance, dimensional stabilityunder heatand impactresistanceatamuch lower weightascomparedtometal-licmaterials, such ascastiron. In asand-slurrytestconducted byBayer, thewear resistanceor PUR isabouttwiceashigh asthatofcastiron underthesameconditions.

PVC (polyvinyl-chloride)PE sumpsaredesigned in accordancewith DIN 19537-1 and offergreatadvantagescomparedtoconventional concretesumps, such asdurability, flexibility, easyinstallation and reduced installation costs.Itisaflame-resistantmaterial, which equallycombinesmechanicalstrength and chemical resistance.
