Dear Parents, I hope that you and your family are all well. I know that is has been quite difficult to complete most of the children’s work without their school-books but thank you for sticking with us. On Monday, you will be able to collect school- books from the school. Mrs. Moloney has sent out information about time to collect the books. The books that you will be collecting include; Operation Maths book Over the Moon book Ready Steady Write book Operation Maths at home book Their handwriting copies. Additionally, on Monday could each family hand in an A4 envelope with a correct address and stamp school on it so that the school can send out the reports. Thank you for your patience. I hope that you and your family are all well.

o Firstly, you could show the children a variety of full and empty objects eg, full glass of water, an empty glass, full box of toys, empty box etc. (Emphasis that full means full to the top)

o Ask the children to label the objects either full or empty. o Then, show the children a variety of objects that are nearly full or

nearly empty eg a bottle of water that is nearly full, a box of cubes that is nearly empty.

o Ask the children to label which objects is nearly empty or nearly full. o You could have a selection of objects which are full, empty, nearly full

and nearly empty and get the children to sort them into the correct groups.

o Select a variety of objects eg. a Calpol syringe and a jug. Ask the children about which one might hold more. Which one holds less? Complete this activity with a variety of objects

o You could select an object eg. a lunch box. Ask the children to find an objects that might hold more and another object that might hold less. Complete this activity on a variety of objects

o Complete the work on pg. 99 of Operation Maths Gaeilge An Teilifís – The television

o I would like the children to learn the phrases Tá sé ag féachaint ar an teilifís. – He is watching the tv Tá sé ag éisteacht leis an raidió. – He was listening to the

radio Tá sé ag súgradh ar an ríomhaire. – He is playing on the

computer o To help learn these phrases I would like the children to learn the song

‘Tá Teidí sa Seomra Suí’. You get the song by pressing the music note or I will upload a version to Seesaw

o You can use Bua na Cainte to help learn this. Click on An Teilifís, then click on Ceacht 3. You can listen to the comhra and get the children to say the words along with the video.

o Another activity that you could do is press on remote control and press tasc éisteachta. When playing this game, I get the children to practice saying the sentences before they press the screen.

o Brainstorm some different words that might contain the ir sound. The video will give them lots of ir word that they could use.

o Complete the work from pg. 78 in their Over the Moon book. o You could give the children three different words and they have to

tell you which on is has/hasn’t got the sound – the odd one outo I will attach some other ir games or activities to complete if you wish

Maths Capacity – Operation Maths pg. 100o Revise the language of capacity – full, empty, nearly full, nearly

empty.o The children could go on a capacity hunt around the house searching

for items that are full, empty, nearly full, nearly empty. Sort them into their proper groups

o Looking at pg. 100 in Operation Maths. Ask the children to look at the boxes at the top of the page and count how many pieces of fruit are in the boxes. Below that there are a selection of boxes that contain a variety of objects. Talk about the capacity of each box. Is it nearly full or nearly empty etc.

o Then when finished discussing the capacity of the boxes, look at the boxes and ask the question ‘How many more do you need to fill the box’

Art Space Art.o This week, I would like the children to use their imagination to create

a space themed piece of art. o The children could do a picture, make something using Junk Art or

they can make something using construction materials Paint Colouring pencils Glue Scissors Recyclable items Lego, building blocks etc.

o I will attach a few images to help inspire the children with their art. o I love a picture of the children’s work uploaded to Seesaw.

English Letter formation – W, w in Ready Steady Write book pg. 41o Revise the sound that the letter ‘W, w’ makes. You could go on a

sound search around the house, looking for words that begin with the letter W, w

o Get the children to brainstorm as many words that begin with the letter W, w

o Revise when we should use capital letters At the start of sentences Names of people and places Holidays eg. Christmas, Easter The letter I in a sentence

o Complete the work based on pg. 41 in their Ready Steady Write book A capital W is written from the top red line downward to the

bottom blue line at a slight angle and travels wards to the top blue line at and angle and then downward to the bottom blue line again and finally upward at an angle to the top red line. The pencil should not leave the page when writing this letter

o If you wish, the children can also practice writing the letter ‘W, w’ in their handwriting copies.

The way that I like to layout the copies for letter formation practice is as follow

lowercase letter eg. w lowercase letter word eg. witch capital letter eg. W capital letter word eg. Winnie a sentence containing as many of the letter m as

possible. Eg. Winnie the witch (Two lines left for practice)

o How many cube do you need to fill these objects? Using lego pieces, cubes or wooden blocks the children could measure the capacity of different objects eg. basin, box, ice cream tub, cup, eggcup, jug, saucepan.

o Before they measure, get the children to estimate how many cube they might need to fill the objects. Once you have estimated the capacity, then the children can measure the actually capacity of the object.

o I will attach a record sheet below, were the children fill in the objects, estimates and measurement done.

PE Creating your own obstacle courseo Using a variety of objects in your home, I would like to try make their

own obstacle course. They could use boxes, hoops, skipping ropes, tunnels, blankets and a variety of object to create their obstacle course.

o You could try to include the following movement in the obstacle course

Jumping, hopping on one or two feet, skipping, running, walking, crawling etc.

o You could include some fun throwing activities or catching activities in the obstacle course eg. basketball, soccer net, egg and spoon race etc.

o I will attach some pictures to help inspire the children in building their obstacle course.

o I would love to see a video of the obstacle course that the children create.
