Casper Interagency Dispatch Center 2016 Report
Dispatch Zone: Casper Interagency Dispatch Center coordinates resources and incidents; for BLM High Plains
District, Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest (WY)/Thunder Basin National Grassland, State of Wyoming lands,
and eleven counties of Eastern Wyoming. The Casper Dispatch Zone spans; from the Northern Wyoming/
Montana border south along the Southern Big Horns and Rattlesnakes, then East to the South Dakota and
Nebraska state lines. We dispatch for Forest Service Lands on the Colorado border.
2016 Summary:
The 2016 was an above average year for activity. There were several Type 3 incidents in the zone, but no Type 1 or Type 2 teams this year. The biggest fire was the Simmons fire for 19,612 acres in Goshen County. Campbell County had the most fires with a total of 39 fires for 7152, followed by the Med/Bow Routt National Forest with 28 fires for 7920 acres. Expanded Dispatch was opened in June for the Short fire. This was the first time since 2012 that we had expanded open. It was opened for approximately 3 months. The region stood up the Casper Tanker for the first time since 2012. It also opened up the Mob Center in Guernsey. It was open the end of July and remained open tell the middle of September. It did not see a lot of activity. Both the Gillette and Casper SEAT base where also open with Gillette seeing the most activity. Incident Actions Our workload is measured by documenting incident actions. An incident action is any action taken by dispatch to assist our agencies, cooperators or vendors. Each new incident is assigned a number for tracking purposes and then entered into a database. Below are examples of what type of actions we record. Wildland Fires - Fires reported to CPC where agency resources respond and suppress. Resource Orders - Mobilizing resources in and out of zone. False Alarms – A reported fire where resources respond but are unable to locate incident. Flight Following – Tracking of agency aircraft traveling through CPC's dispatch zone. Dispatch Assist - Actions where only CPC assists cooperators. Includes processing spot weather, smoke reports, county fire notifications and fires reported out of our zone of response. AD Hire - Administrative services involved with hiring emergency firefighter personnel. Rx Fire – Controlled burns where dispatch provides services such as resource mobilization, cooperator notifications, and dispatch staffing. Fuels Reduction - Mechanical thinning projects for urban interface and natural resource benefits. Other - Other actions not defined above.
