...it was difficult to say which of apparently independent objects was more inspiring for the whole architecture, however it’s pretty clear that entrusting both tasks to the same architect’s office, lead to an excellent result.

Fusion of sails and timberThe Boathouse is situated on the river Vistula near the old Town of Włocławek. A nearby bridgeforms part of the design – togehther they have a chance to become a recognizable symbol of the city. The tensioned membranes on the roof and the wooden facades of the service buildings are reminiscent of Włocławek’s port history. The building with its suspending bridge does not compete with the historic panorama of the old the city, it becomes a comple-mentary part of the bank side. For the many cyclists the boathouse and most of all the bridge is the missing link between the town’s centre and the extensive backwaters.
