Rolling Hills Casino & Resort is a picturesque casino and resort located north of Sacramento, California that recently celebrated 15 successful years since opening in 2002. The resort features two hotels, a golf course, a new equestrian center, an RV park, and a fully-equipped traveler’s lodge including ample truck parking. Rolling Hills is a destination resort and a perfect stopping point for travelers heading south to Los Angeles or north to Portland on I5. With a goal to make all their guests comfortable (including the furry ones), the resort even boasts an air-conditioned Pet Care center.

Each year, thousands of guests visit Rolling Hills Casino, bringing with them tourist dollars that benefit the local economy. The Rolling Hills Community Development Foundation has donated over $8 million to help make the community safer, healthier and more educated.

TITO TICKETS INCREASING

In 2006 the casino was dealing with an increasing number of TITO (Ticket In, Ticket Out) tickets. Processing TITO tickets intermingled with cash was proving to be

a challenge and required hand-sorting. In addition, the banknote processing machines used for soft count were due for an upgrade. “Our equipment was aging and we had frequent breakdowns.” Explains Thomas Allen, Count Room Manager. “And due to our location, it could take quite a while to get replacement parts or a technician to install them.” After meeting the G+D Currency Technology team at the annual G2E conference, Ms. Fox was pleased to learn that there was a new class of systems that processed intermingled cash and TITO tickets with outstanding reliability. “That was really the start of agreat relationship with G+D!” says Ms. Fox. After visiting another casino to see the product in a live environment, she was sold. “G+D banknote processing systems are

NOTABLE TIME SAVINGS

Rolling Hills currently has two BPS C4 banknote processing systems, one in the cage and one in the count room. The count room runs on BPS Connect Casino software which gives managers a 360º overview of count room operations.Since moving to the BPS C4s, Rolling Hills redeployed staff and reduced the number of employees required for currency processing from 14 people down to 9, even as volume increased. “We really can do more with less, thanks to the reliability of the G+D equipment.”

Explains Mr. Allen. “With the old system, we had longer shifts and more people and we also had to have multiple back-up machines in case of break downs. With G+D, the reliability is so good we haven’t used the back-up system.“

BETTER BY DESIGN

So what makes a reliable banknote processing system? According to Ms. Fox, the track layout is key, as is the quality of the components. “G+D has a straight track which makes it less likely to jam. If there is a problem, clearing the machine is so much easier. Other equipment we considered had an L- shaped track, making it more prone to jamming and stopping. equipment. G+D is focused on producing reliable currency technology. Other companies just don’t seem to have the same attention to detail.” The Count Room team will soon be installing ZEUS, a new, compact G+D tabletop discriminator to help with reject-reentry processing for poor quality TITO tickets.
